    Just a little lighthearted fun.....although trying to make a quiz to suit the vast range of knowledges on here is near impossible me thinks......anyway here goes

    Round 1: Herbs
    A herb is hidden in each of these sentences

    a. Jack loves his doberman pinscher, vile beast it is to strangers.
    b. Give me some of your savoy plants and I'll give you some of my cauliflower plants
    c. Kathy met me and Meg for afternoon tea at the Ritz.
    d. I won a big box of chocolates, which I've saved for Christmas.
    e. I met Penny and Bob as I left the underground station.
    f. Please bring me a whole honeycomb, or a generous piece of one.
    g. Jane bought a raspberry pavlova, Geena a strawberry shortcake, and Kate fresh cream.
    h.Do come to supper. It's ages since we last saw you.

    Round 3: Fruit

    a. How long should you be able to keep a well grown blackcurrent bush before it needs replacing? 10, 15 or 20 years
    b. Which apple rootstock would give the largest tree? M9, M26 or M27 ( and no not the one to Portsmouth)
    c. For red ripe dessert gooseberries would you plant....Careless, Leveller or Whinham's Industry?
    d. Which rootstock is most suitable for a garden plum tree? Myrobalan, Pixy or St Julian
    e. To a botanist only one of these is a true berry, which? Gooseberry, raspberry or strawberry
    f. How high is the bare trunk of a half standard apple tree? 2, 3 or 4 feet
    g. Which strawberry would you grow from seed? Florence, Honeoye or Mignonette
    h. Which apple should be eaten first? Greensleeves, Katy or Meridian

    Round 4: Common Ground

    Plants in each of the following questions have something in common....but what? (warning sometimes its a tenious link!)

    a. Deadly nightshade, sweet peppers and tomatoes?
    b. Cardoons, Whitloof chicory and trench celery?
    c. Cucumbers, tomatoes and aubergines? (other than half hardy)
    d. celery, seakale and rhubarb?
    e. Alfalfa, fenugreek and mung beans?
    f. Kale, leeks and swedes
    g. dill, fennel and parsley? (apart from being herbs....doh!)
    h. gherkins, silverskin onions and red cabbage?

    b. Tubers of which potato variety should you dig up first? Cara, Dunluce or Kestrel

    d. To harvest strawberries into early autumn would you grow...Bolero, Elsanta or Elvira?
    e. Would you sow seed of the onion Imai Early Yellow in....the greenhouse in January, the open in March or the open in August?
    f. What is the traditional time to sow the broad bean Aquaduluce Claudia? February, March or November

    a. Eat this on 5th November?
    b. Sailing through treacherous Artic seas?
    c. Is it eaten with sausages and ham?
    d. Is it really grown to feed young animals?
    e. French blend of coffee?
    f. Once known as the love apple? (Don't google it LJ xx)
    g. Island in the Aegean Sea

    f. Radish or other quick growing plant grown between rows of slower growing veg?
    g. A tree that will produce fruit after being pollinated with its own pollen?
    h. Old style method of storing potatoes in a pile covered by straw and earth?

          Don't know about answers but clues for round 2 would be nice. I've got all eight for Round 1 and I'm working on the rest.

            If I had to finish one section before moving to the next I would save myself a fortune in ink!

              Good quiz btw Geordie! I normally get sent a quiz that a local church puts out each Christmas to try and boost church funds. Its a general knowledge one and I always do crap at it!

              Got no excuses for this one though as GYO is one of my key interests.

                  What a great idea, and a good quiz! I've managed to find all of round one's answers, and probably only have about another 15 or so answers without looking them up!

                  Like Snadger I got all round 7's without any problem! Lol!

                  Methinks this shows just how much I still have to learn! Lol!
