Years later I worked at a marriage bureau and was horrified at the casual attitude to people's stated preferences, often having to take the flak on the phone when a non-smoker had been linked up with a smoker, for instance. It was apparently the only way that people could be given the number of introductions stated on the blurb! I didn't last long in that job!

Met Mr OWG on a blind date 11 years ago... we were set up by our respective groups of friends as we were the only single ones at the time.
Love at first sight! Got engaged 2 weeks after that, moved in together after 3 months, married after 4 years (we had to finish Uni first!)... still together, whilst none of the original couples are together

I went on a blind date when I was 16. Trouble is, it was so blind that no-one had told me! We were in a group and half way through the night he took me to one side and asked, 'Do you not like me, then?'. They had obviously told him!!! I did date him for about 2 months, but he wasn't the one. His mate split us up by telling me he was seeing someone else. I found out about 5 years later he'd told my then BF that me and mate head slept together (which is when I also found out that BF was not seeing someone else)! Luckily for the mate, our paths have never ever crossed again. He was Fugly personified and clearly very jealous of his best pal having any sort of relationship!!!
Never done a blind date, since, but would consider it if I were single!
ETA: I should clarify that I was a virgin at the time, so doubly offended at the mate's lies!Last edited by SlugLobber; 04-08-2009, 12:28 PM.

I met my OH through a local newspaper column, it was a bit like an internet forum, but before they were invented (about 16 years ago - eeek). It wasn't a personals column, it was just people across the county writing to each other under pennames. We then wrote letters privately to each other for two years (never met, never even exchanged photos), then we agreed to finally meet the day after Boxing Day, I haven't left his side since.
I have no idea where I would be now if i hadn't met him that way, as I know that we would not have crossed paths in our normal lives. Fate!

I met my partner on the t'internet just short of 7 years ago. She was in Aberdeenshire, me in Fife. Did the long distance thing for almost 2 years, then we moved into a house I'd also found on the internet (and never seen!) in the Shire. So I guess the net has been good to me!

Internet dating nightmare involving a trip to the ladies, never to return. I've never done that to anyone before, but it was very VERY odd and I started to feel unsafe.
Happily met the OH online and we now live together - obviously not the one I ran away from for the record !!!!
