travel lodge or premier inn?

i've got to go to a conference in market harborough so i'm looking for somewhere to stay.. premier inn is £10 more than travel lodge and they're both the same distance

anyone stayed in either of them? i've been looking at b&b's also but they cost a fortune!!

We have stayed in both. The standard is much the same - a room with a TV, shower and loo. Usually clean and comfy.

Book the family room if available, as there is no extra charge and it means you end up with a sofa, so a little more space.

Have you tried comparing prices on the internet for these places? Sometimes if you are booking a bit in advance you can get pretty decent deals. Thinking of this for our holiday in Shropshire in September - would be interested on which you choose and what you think.

decided on travel lodge as all i really need is somewhere to sleep, shower and get changed.. don't need anything extravagant

to get a really cheap deal with any of them you have to book like a year in advance

I travel for work quite a lot and we have recently started to use both Travel Lodge and Premier Inn. I find the PIs tend to be that bit nicer overall, a bath as well as shower, TL often has just a shower, PI only have basic toiletries but TL often have NOTHING, the PI breakfast is much nicer - both quality and variety, the rooms are often quite big with decent TV and freeview channels. Also, most PIs have air-con, not so sure about TL. I have also had a couple of TL rooms that were a bit shabby and didnt feel especially clean - PI rooms seem to be decorated every few months !
Obviously, it depends how long you are there and what for, but as I tend to do a few days at a time, the PI would always be my preference.

Becareful that you state the location you want to stay in....We once booked in to Milton Keynes Travillodge only to turn up to find it full and them wanting us to go to nottingham which had rooms....They then tried to refuse trefunding he room fee cos we were cancilling the booking with out giving 24hrs notice.

I also like Premier Inn more than Travelodge, they are always in a better location and have better facilities.

I had to stay in a Travelodge on the outskirts of Dublin last year. What a disaster that was, the reception was covered with a wire cage and they had lots of video cameras all over the place.
It appears that because you book a room over there, they get gangs of builders all sharing one room.

Have stayed in a few Premier Lodges, I like them over Travelodge and the breakfast is yummy

It's a couple of years since I stayed in either, but overall other things equal I'd opt for Premier Inn. That said I'm not sure if the preference would stretch to paying £10 more.

Stayed at a travel lodge in merseyside last year en route to a family funeral.
It was horrible, stank of smoke, shower was rubbish and the sink was blocked. Breakfast was in the little chef next door (didn't have it!).
