Sounds like you weren't the only person who had a problem with your boss. Either that or he had his own issues going on which he took out (possibly without meaning to) on those around him at work.
I'm really glad that for you at least the end of a difficult period is in sight. I hope your new boss is much better!

Good for you Tiachica. I've had (many) bosses like him, and I've always been the one forced to leave

          Hallo grapes,

this story is not over yet....

The managing director has informed that they are not sure but there is a chance that my old boss might file for unfair dismissal, because I confronted him about lying to me.

How is this possible? He handed in his notice? And was I not to confront him? I suppose it's worthwhile lying at your workplace for your own benefit and taking other people down with you.... I am feeling so bitter now....

          TiaChica....

I don't quite see how he can claim 'unfair dismissal' (or even 'contructive dismissal', if he resigned) over someone whose boss he was confronting him. He MIGHT (in theory) make such a claim on the basis that his superiors took your word against his and this made his life impossible, but even if he does make such a claim, that cannot be YOUR fault.
Anyone claiming unfair dismissal is claiming against the decisions of THEIR boss, and this is one can they cannot pass downwards. (that is about all I know on the subject).

HE was YOUR boss, not the other way round.
              He handed in his notice.

Not sure what case there is to answer???

Sorry, but your company will hopefully tell him where to go. If it was the other way round then possibly he might have a case.

Don't feel bitter; the company are telling you just in case it happens; and he can file what he wants - I don't think any legal beagle would suggest taking this case to an industrial tribunal....he is probably just trying to get some settlement cash out of them and this is the only way to do so.

A boss who lies and then can't cope if their employee asks them about it; tell your company they need to get more stringent recruitment practices in place as this sort of behaviour can be easily picked out using psychometric tests and I know a good company that runs them properly, next time they are looking for management.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. It sounds like your MD is simply keeping you informed so you don't get any nasty surprises. There isn't, as far as I can tell, a case for you to answer here but if he did take the company to court it is possible you would be called as a witness on the companies behalf.
So long as you have maintained your honesty and integrity and continue to do so, there should be no problem.

I forget the figures but we were once told how much a case going to industrial tribunal would typically cost our company in legal fees and management time, and it was substantially more than the average compensation figure. The point was to remind usscrewing up employment matters was expensive. Of course it's not unknown for people with no real case to try it on hoping the company make a settlement payment to save the cost of defending the case.
