  • Connection problems...help please!

Is it just me or is anyone else having a bad time connecting to the vine, my computers really slow,(Pentium duel core) so it shouldn't be, i've ran 2 full scans and nothings wrong there, when it dose connect..the screen dosn't show everything..just a bit here and there, if i'm lucky sometimes it's just white, i'm soooo fed up with it...20+mins to get this far..any ideas please???? Be gentle with me, i'm no wizard.

Do other programmes work or is it just the vine? Can you connect to other websites. Might be an idea to do a system restore. What op system are you using.. Windows ??
With you saying that you have done 2 full scans I assume your video card and screen are working OK. If your screen resolution has somehow altered, that will do strange things to your screen.
I you'st to have a handle on the world .. but it BROKE!!

sadly im an computer engineer by trade (well before I had to stop working)

the usual problems with computers running slow are

1 a computer virus - solution use antivirus software (avg is a reasonable free antivirus)

2 spyware - This is software that can be anything hyjacking which web pages you see, logging passwords these routines can take alot of memory and slow the machine down - solution try using a spyware removal programme, lavasofts adaware or S&D spybot are 2 free downloadable programmes that remove spyware.

3 the condition of the software on the hard disk use the following windows programmes to help

                a) Disk cleanup
                b) error check
                c) disk defragmentor

4 I would agree if its just the internet running slow it could be worth clearing the cache
                removing temporary internet files

it could just be your broadband supplier (ISP) is having problems, this usually last only a couple of hours depending on how serious the problem is

if you are running Internet Explorer 8 make sure you have all the updates (there is quite a few problems with IE8)

personal advice would be use mozzila fire fox instead google chrome seems to be quite good too

if you are using a wireless conection it could be a problem with the signal a simple way to test this is to plug the computer directly to the router, if its fast plugged in, it would indicate a wireless issue

If your still having problems or need advice please pm me
if you have windows vista or msn messenger I can with you permission take control of your pc and run checks remotely

if I had the Mac Address of the router I could telnet it (talk to it), as long as it conected, I have had a career talking to inanimate objects (servers/routers/switches), now I just talk to plants

Bad luck, Ginger. Nothing makes me more infuriated than a computer which won't work!
If none of the above works for you try going to the JustAnswer website. For as little as £12 they will connect you with a computer expert who can hijack your system - only to investigate the cause! - and tell you what to do to put it right.
I used this a couple of weeks ago when my pc was refusing to load my browser and was slow at just about everything. A techie in the USA gave me a fix - I printed it out and followed it word for word - and now my pc works as well as it has ever done. They give you a choice of tariff and, however long it takes to solve the problem, they don't give up on you or disappear from your screen, never to be found again. It took 24hrs to cure my problem, largely because of the time difference between here and the US.
