                Hiya Glutton,
Know exactly how you are feeling, this has happened to me too. First found out when i was in a garden centre with my mum and when they tried to put my purchase through on my card an alert came up asking me to call my bank.
Duely did to find out that they thought i was in India as money had been taken out of bank account there! I pointed out i didn't even have a pass port and not a time traveller so it wasn't me.
My bank were wonderful and refunded the not insubstantial amount to my account but ever since i feel very wary of using card and like you it took alot of sorting and inconvenience to sort.
Love to you and hope you get it sorted.xx

Having tried to look into this cloning thing there are four important pieces of advice that I can give to help stop this happening:
                  1) Never use a cash machine which is outside a bank/supermarket as they are easier for the thieves to modify.
                  2) Pay for everything on a credit card then they do not have access to your account - just set up a direct debit to pay it off in full each month.
                  3) Never ever let you card out of your sight when making a transaction.
                  4) Always, always cover your pin number when entering it.

Trying to track the fraudsters down is like climbing a hill wearing diving boots as the police are slow paced by the banks who do not want to let on that their security is not as good as they want us to think!

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool

Hope the money is refunded sharpish, Glutton. I'm a bit worried at the mo, as Amazon have sent me an email to say they're having trouble with a purchase and to check the card details. I checked them and they're fine! Have had no further emails since telling them to retry, so hoping everything's ok!

Is there somewhere that you think may be repeatedly accessing your details? A dodgy shop, or an ebay seller that you use often?

I travel quite a lot with my work and because I have family overseas. My bank and credit card are frequently frozen when I use them abroad as they think it might be fraud. It's always sortable with a phone call and confirmation that the last few transactions were mine. Irritating, but better that way round.

Sluglobber, they once refused a transaction through amazon too. I had to let them know I really DID want to buy the garden furniture in question before they would let it through
You should check with amazon whether it has gone through as they may have cancelled the order.

Have checked the order status and all seems Kosher, now, so hopefully a blip. Hope you get it sorted, Glutton. It's one of my worst fears - I'm so paranoid about this sort of thing I don't even have a Paypal account!

What a b**ger, it always seems to happen when it's a bad time too.

Scary one happened to us when we had some dosh a couple of years back, can't say how much was scammed out of various accounts but it was a fair bit.

Barclays caught on told us and in collaboration with the police allowed the transaction through and the cops picked up the guy on collection at Watford. Was very scary but Barclays did guarantee the amount if anything happened...

This is one of the biggest fraud tricks going, NEVER send any details or click on any links in such emails. Remember no honest operation will contact you and ask you to do so. Even NHS email accounts get hit by these scumbags.

Hope all is sorted soon and satisfactorily, could happen to any of us.

                              Sorry to hear that Glutton.
My OH's card has been compromised 3 times.2 first ocurences happened probably on the Internet.
Last time it was the cash machine-ATM in a popular spot.OH went to get some cash, there was a guy "talking on the phone" too close to the cash machine.
Watch out for any devices around the card slot-something to read the number of the card and chase off any "cash machine walkers"
As a result,OH had over 600£ taken from the account, apparently by Western Union???
Now he's having a dispute with a bank.
I don't know if the bank is able to trace the cons, they must cover their actions at the early stages.
