No Shortie we were both right. Chanukah or Hanukkah. They are Hebrew for dedication. It is a festival of dedication or the festival of lights and lasts for 8 days.
The festival of lights is very similar to the Hindu festival of Divali (Festival of lights). The significance is the return of light and the triumph of good over evil. We all celebrate it, whatever name we call it, and whatever form the celebration takes. So I just repeat, every best wish to everyone of whatever persuasion, for the return of the light, and the triumph of good. The universal message is Peace on Earth. Will we ever see it.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
It all down to the Romans....They turned over a Temple and smashed up everything the sacred lamp was lit but it there was no oil. In a Temple/ Shul/ synagogue the lamp must stay lit. Now it would take 8 days for the rabbi to make more oil. But the oil in the lamp lasted the 8 days.....Now not wanting to offend anyone but...Strange how all these festivals are at the same time of the year, Christmas, Davali, Hanukkah and the Solstice.
With the first showing of the Great Eacape on Sunday we have been celebrating already we had a good omen with Kellys Heros yesterday...we will keep the festivities till the first showing of Von Ryans Express.

Talking about films, Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without my absolute favourite film "Zulu"! Yep, goodwill to all men! Still, maybe this time the Zulus'll win. Usunu!
Lol Berr! I love that film! My Dad used to love it, I remember the first time I got to see it, he put both my brother and I to bed, then half an hour later came and got me up (my brother is 3 years younger than me) and told me to come and watch it with him and my Mum! I was only 10 or so, and it was on late, I got embarrassed seeing the half naked Zulu girls, but the film is soo good that it became a firm fave! Still reminds me of my Dad!
