  • Whats your 'wont miss' telly this xmas/yule, whats been your faves in xmas past?

    Hi Gang!

We got a TV guide for the xmas telly last week, went through it with a marker to mark up what we want to watch, and found very little that we absolutely want to watch and wont miss, the offerrings this year dont seem to be all that special at all, I can remember in years gone by that the xmas telly would be one of the highlights of the festive season, this year with all the choice on offer there doesnt seem to be much good on at all!

So, what is on offer this year that you will make a point of watching, and whats been your favourites from xmas viewing for the years gone by?

One that springs to my mind as a child was The Goodies and the Beanstalk, I can still remember all of the family in absolute tears of laughter at various bits of it!

One of the few things we've decided we MUST see this year is of course the new adaptation of 'Hogfather', saw first episode last night, was good, but Nobby Nobbs wasnt quite right IMHO, he looked too human!

I have just looked through the TV Times and I can't see much that I would bother watching apart from Doc Martin and Jools Holland on New Years Eve.

In the past my favourite Christmas programme has to be Only Fools And Horses.

Mrs D, you are infatuated with the telly!!!!! I think you have just broken the record for the longest thread title also, although I may be wrong!

PMSL Snadger, I did have to edit the original title, as it was too long!!!!

Nope, not infatuated with the telly, there's actually little on that I watch in comparison with most (this weeks viewing has been Torchwood on BBC3 and Hogfather on Sky, apart from that there's been nothing I've really, really wanted to see!), but just trying to think of some seasonal things that could be discussed in the off topic section of the vine while the weather is so poor and we cant get out and do much in the garden / on the plot!! As MOM I'm trying to ensure that there's something for folks to read and get involved with while we arent gardening, thats all my friend!

Dont know if its working or not, but its better sitting and reading it, getting a better understanding of folks and their likes / dislikes on the vine than it is watching some of the rubbish on the telly!

Just to show I do notice the demon screen in he cormer of the living room now and again........ I have to agree with LJ that it wouldn't be Crimbo without 'Only fools and Horses' but once Bing Crosby starts singing white christmas the two fingers go automatically to the throat and I rush to the toilet!!

Dr Who on Christmas Day, definitely, also Torchwood over Christmas (if it's on). Can't think of anything else I'd want to watch as my "programmes" all get suspended over the festive period!

Absolutely gutted. We cancelled our sky subscription and gave a month's notice as required - we have opted for freeview as it's cheaper in the long run & the bloody month's notice ended the night before Sky's adaption of Hogfather - NOOOOO! As an avid TP Fan it is all I have been talking about for the past few weeks - I don't s'pose anyone has a taped copy they would lend?? You'll get it back, I promise!

Hi Sunbeam, its being repeated on xmas day and boxing day at 1pm both days for 2 hours, so if you've a friend who can tape it for you, that may be an option! We've taped it, so if you dont manage to get it taped give us a shout and we'll see what we can do!

Have to say it was good, cinematography and effects very good, some of the characters are brill, esp Death and Susan, deffo worth seeing, but not as good as the books! (Tho very few things are really as good as the book!)

Personally I don't think they do telly like they used to!
I remember Christmas in the early eighties, when the first Mr MB got a video recorder. He spent the entire School holidays recording most of the output. Needless to say, we never watched any of it!.
These days we can hardly be bothered at all. Give me a good game of Scrabble any dayl
As for NYE, it's got be Hootenany, ever since Andy Stewart stopped doing it!!!

Doubt if I'll watch anything. Don't watch much at any time but with family here I'd rather spend time with them than watch the box. Can't see anything special on it.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
