  • The Great Grape Get Together

    Waddya reckon?

It'd take some planning, but why don't we set a date next year for a mass get together?

Could invite stall holders (come on piglet, get yer name down lad!), attractions, charitable fund raisers etc.

There's plenty of grapes now, and I'm sure the readers of the mag would be interested.

    Would the magazine be interested?

If I wasnt working I'd be interested, but where to have it? Grapes are that spread out all over the world that it'd be difficult for everyone to get to one place, so perhaps several local meets would be better? Or just have it in the middle of the british isles, which would put it somewhere north of Birminghamish!

Looking at a map I suspect Manchester or Leeds would be more central, taking into account our Scottish grapes, but I agree that maybe a series of more local meets would be more practical. Not everyone would necessarily be able to afford to travel far, from a time or cost perspective.

It would be fun but would need to be someplace like a big campsite.

Hmm, big campsite??? Shell Island in Wales is the largets tent only site in the Uk, and a lovely place to boot, tho not many gardens to visit thereabouts!

Actually it would need to be 1000 miles west of Cork...as we have american grapes....so trunks and rubber rings are needed.

I've been to a three day Clarecraft/Terry Pratchett event on a farm in Suffolk before. It was really well attended and there was plenty of space for everyone to camp in the farmers field. We only stayed one night and my OH got a bit bored (not really his thing), but if it were gardening related (maybe some suppliers/advertisers could have stands or something)...he might be pursuaded. Maybe the mag should arrange it for us?

I think a big camp out would be a great idea, considering most of us would have to drive to a destination it would mean we could have a drink or two.(but no more!!!)
Your first idea is a good one Wayne, but it would take a lot of organising, both before & on the day.Would it allow for peeps to have a good chinwag or would we all have our designated jobs?

It would be good if it was officially arranged by the mag.

                        "Grapestock 2010"

                        I can see it now.

Wonder if Pearl Jam would provide the music - I'll have a word on Tuesday.

                            "Grapestock", I love it!

Surely picking the most centrally accessible site would assure the best turn-out. I mean, Shell Island is a nice place, but it would take far longer for the majority of people (Far northerners in particular) to get to compare with Manchester or Leeds. (Not just saying that because it's closer to me!)
