Cheer me up..please

I was woken up this morning by a very good neighbour phoning me to let me know my car tyres had been slashed..not just 1, but all 4, and the window on the drivers side has been forced open (electric windows), she also said that her car had been done as well (2 tyres), and another neighbour has had a window put through, the police were brill , they were here in less that 10 Min's, i couldn't talk to them properly because i was so upset there calling back this afternoon sometime, i haven't got a top of the range car, it's just a little rover 25 on a 02 plate..but its mine.
The insurance were fantastic when i rang them, there sending someone out to take my car and repair it, i'll get a courtesy car while mines of the road.
As far as i know i've not said anything wrong or done anyone any wrongs, i keep myself to myself, help anyone that i can, run people who haven't got a car to hospital if i'm asked (they cover petrol) i do shopping for 3 elderly ladies that live near by, between my neighbour and me we keep most of the people in out little terrace in veg (only 4 house's at each side of the road, dead end at top) i'm really at a lose as to why we've been targeted, it's really upset me i can't stop crying..i'm gutted.

BUT, don't let it get you down - and don't take it personally. (Easier said than done, I know).

The same thing happened to my car - and about 15 others along the street - a while back. They'd just gone along slashing all the tyres on every car, smashing the side windows and breaking into the odd car (mine included). There was mud all over the steering wheel where they'd kicked it trying to release the steering lock.

There was neither rhyme nor reason in it - it was certainly nothing we'd done. And it's nothing you've done either!

Oh ginger, that is terrible. The attack probably wasn't personal to you. Some people are just rotters and your car was just randomly chosen.

I hope you get everything sorted out and I hope the police find the rotters.

And I really hope you feel much better after you've had a good cry.

If where you live is anything like the village I grew up in, it was probably kids with nothing better to do.

It happened to a friend a couple of weeks ago, she needs her car too as she's a district nurse. Hers was the only car on the street attacked and she was finding it difficult to stop herself thinking it was personal. She lives in a lovely quiet street with large Victorian terraces, built for huge families, but not cars, so everyone has to park on the road. It seems that one house on there has been bought by a landlord and he lets it out, via social services, to people who even the local council have washed their hands of, so they are currently on their third 'bad' family. Everyone else ignores them, but my friend is the type who is friendly to everyone and it seems that marked her out as a 'do-gooder' in their eyes, hence the attack on her car (the son in the family admitted it, nothing has ever been done with him in the past, so he's not worried about owning up to wrong-doing). I wouldn't worry about having upset anyone, even if you try to be pleasant it can be enough to make you a target, we just live in an increasingly hostile world where fewer kids are brought up to respect others. At least the insurance company have been good, which is always a positive thing. A weekend at the lottie with a bottle or two of vintage Vino Collapso will set you right. Hope you're feeling a little better now the shock has worn off a bit.

So sorry to hear what happened, I too know what it like I had my car vandalised for no reason a couple of years ago

I also found out my car alarm does not go off unless you try to open the door which when they smashed the windows was pretty pointless

i'm glad the police bothered to see you when mine was damaged they told me to come down to the police station to get crime number as they don't bother even checking the car over

I tried working out who or why and ended up realising I would never know

its not kids in general as most know the difference between right & wrong, its a minority group thank god

Ive never understood the enjoyment damaging someone elses property
as a youngster I prefered helping

you just take care of your self and try to forget about it as much as you can

Easy to say I know, but don't beat yourself up trying to work out who/why - just concentrate on the positives. Mindless desctruction of property like this is exactly that - mindless. No thought involved.

The car's still there - you're unhurt. The tyres can be replaced, the window can be fixed.

I don't buy the "nothing better to do" excuse a lot of them give - there's plenty of things to do, they just chose not to do them. The estate where I grew up now has a basketball court, various swings, slides, climbing thingies, youth centre, etc etc that was never there when I was a kid. We found things to do that didn't involve mindless destruction of valuable property - our parents taught us better.

Hear, hear, Wayne. I was on a rant about this only yesterday. I remember one holiday actually making our OWN youth club, teaching the other kiddies things like rollerskate stunts and making glove puppets out of socks (the friend who did it went on to be a Primary School teacher, lol!).

Since the two pubs on our road closed, we get a lot less mindless vandalism on our cars, but it still happens to a certain extent. Small, rural town, not exactly the crime capital.

The worst thing about it that I've found is that you need to get to work URGENTLY and you end up dealing with the police, insurers and finding another way to get there until things are sorted out . Inconvenience factor.

Thank you everyone for the brilliant support, you don't even know me and your being so kind, i still can't stop crying i haven't told OH yet, he's at work till 6..all this happened half hour after he left this morning for work, so i've got it all to go through again when he comes home, i'm dreading it... it's really made me question why i help so many people, when someone can do this to me...what with losing my job, and now this, i'll end up back on antidepressants.
But on a bit of a lighter note, i watched "Alan Alan Alan" HayWayne, he's on the T.V advertising a nature program.

How ANNOYING! It will be some **** heads coming out of town, bored, on their way home. At least the police came soonish, and hopefully theyve got all the details.
About 4 new years eves ago, local nasty people tried to break into my old vauxhall cavalier - they bent open the doors, as of course, it was locked. Could've been much worse as we were having dinner with friends (polite terms for a p*** up! ) at ours. Our friends have posh company cars - two mercs and a new bmw were parked outside, as well as DH old merc. They didnt touch them - just my old wreck!
At least your insurance company are on the case. Don't take it personally, although I know its hard not to - I asked myself the same questions you did - have I upset anyone etc. etc.
Its just low lifes making everyone else's life a misery.
