  • Was I wrong?

My OH went away on a course last week, and she asked me to look out for a parcel to be delivered. So far so good.

A parcel duly turned up the day after she had gone and lo and behold a Panasonic breadmaker. We had been talking about getting one of these for a while and I had even asked about them in one of these pages somewhere.

So thinking I'd get it out of the box, get used to it and then when she was due home, tonight, make a big wonderfully fresh loaf for her.

Well, to put it mildly she turned up, asked what the %$*@ I was doing with the breadmaker and had a right go. Turned out she had bought it as a wedding present for someone, not a word to me about it. Now I feel like s*$t

Apart from a lot of verbal and bad feeling for the first time this year she has gone to her own house saying how much I've upset her.

Was I wrong to use the bloody thing?

Oh dear, I guess if it was addressed to her, you shouldn't have opened it

    Was the bread good?

Sorry, not sure I should be ggigling...but if you knew my day then you'd know that's good!!!
When's the wedding? If there's time to get another in time then I'd look at it that you've got yours a little earlier than you would have, have tested the product before getting one as a pressie...everyone should be happy!
P.S.If it's not as great as you'd hoped, maybe you could clean it up & rebox it & give it as the present it was intended!

The bread was fantastic. Even the first loaf I tried.

Shall look in the recycling bin tomorrow to see who it was addressed to. Though we both had all our mail etc delivered here, to my place, we used to open each others as we have, or had nothing to hide.

It's an easy mistake to make gingerlover. Best idea is to go out and buy ANOTHER Panasonic breadmaker for her to use as a gift. Both sides win then, she's got her prezzie and you've both got a new breadmaker!

Sugest you print off the following - then you can't go wrong

Rules for Male, Written by Female

            1. The Female always makes The Rules.

            2. The Rules are subject to change at any time without prior notification.

            3. No Male can possibly know all The Rules.

            4. If the Female suspects the Male knows all The Rules, she must immediately change some or all of The Rules.

            5. The Female is never wrong.

            6. If the FEMALE is wrong, it is due to a misunderstanding which was a direct result of something the MALE did or said wrong.

            7. (If Rule 6 applies, the Male must apologize immediately for causing the misunderstanding.)

            8. The Female can change her mind at any given point in time.

            9. The Male must never change his mind without express written consent from the Female.

            10. The Female has every right to be angry or upset at any time.

            11. The Male must remain calm at all times, unless the Female Wants him to be angry or upset.

            12. The Female must under no circumstances let the Male know whether or not she wants him to be angry or upset.

            13. The Male is expected to mind read at all times.

            14. The Male who doesn't abide by The Rules, can't take the heat, lacks a backbone, and is a wimp.

            15. Any attempt to document The Rules could result in bodily harm.

            16. At no time can the Male make such comments as "Insignificant" and "Is that all?" when the Female is complaining.

            17. If the Female has PMS, all The Rules are null and void!

Well, you probably shouldn't have opened it without asking...

But, on the other hand, why on earth didn't she tell you what was coming, and what it was for? That would be common sense, "The wedding present for **** is coming, will you sign for it please?" or something similar. Simple communication...

Well if you normally open each others post and she had warned you about the parcel, why didn't she just say that the parcel was the wedding gift Perhaps she was tired and overreacted as she know's that she didn't tell you who it was for.. .or perhaps you ruined a surprise pressie from her?

Not sure this is a good idea, however good the relationship.

You shouldn't have opened the parcel, and she shouldn't have stropped off.
You can be the man here and apologise first, and she'll come round. You'll need to buy a new breadmaker too

She should have communicated what you were [presumably] both getting someone for a wedding present, and you should have told her it had arrived and asked her if it was ok to open it.

I agree it will cost you a new breadmaker but if you wanted one anyway then you've not essentially lost out........I'd tell her you are getting a new one pronto and would it be ok to make up over some cinnamon bread [or something along those lines...cinnamon bread would work with my OH for instance].....

In the greater scheme of things, you are now able to make bread for her which in my book is a bonus.

Think your OH has over-reacted but I think you need to grovel Go buy a new breadmaker and a nice pressie for her. Did your OH have a bad time on her course? and she took it out on you. I think I would have thought bake a nice loaf of bread (as a welcome back home treat)

Oh dear! Got a bit of a problem there! I'm with everyone else - It would really have helped if you had been told what was comming but given that up until now you have opened each others post with no problems then how can you be at fault for opening it?

Using it may have been too much....

Get a replacement, grovel and ask how the course went - then check whos wedding it is and when you are supposed to be going!

It's entirely your own fault if you opened a parcel addressed to her, mate - you should have used your loaf !
