  • Someone at t'door

    Blimey!!! Heart stopping.

Just sitting here doing my spreadsheets and the front door knob starts being tried, as if my OH is locked out or the key stuck.

No knocking involved, just someone trying to get in.

I sneak round the corner to have a lookie....

I can see through the keyhole shadows as if someone is there - heart by now is not moving.....and look out the window to see a man in a suit.

So, sheepishly open the door and get asked how I'm doing

Yup, I'm busy....so are we he says. [Perhaps he should get on with it then rather than go door to door]....

I said, what is this about....

    Jehovah's Witnesses he says.

    I'm not interested I say

People keep telling us that he says

Perhaps that's because they're not interested I says back.

So, I close the door and lock it again.

Now, I don't mind people coming round, I never ever do business on the door and usually tell them that but - actually trying to open the door rather than knocking???!!!!!!

    I'm furious with them....what a cheek.....

So, just warning Grapes that this might be a new JW method, or perhaps a new scam to pretend to be JW in order to try people's front doors.

    Keep 'em locked Grapes.

Rant over. Need a calming peppermint or licorice tea now.

Ooh dear, I don't like the sound of that at all. Are you okay? Perhaps you should call the Police Andrea...

How rude and definitely suspicious too... I've never known JW's to try the door... Have had them knocking on the living room window when I ignored them knocking at the door though!
I'd ring the police, it is a very good cover story for someone wanting to sneak into houses...

Another reason to be glad for my large German Shepherd

ETA: Was he on his own? I've never seen them going to doors on their own either.

Wandered about, and noticed that a car that WAS parked in front of mine is now gone....so called the rozzers. It was the door knob thing that peed me off.

Anyway, they are going to get someone out.

Very annoyed as I'm neck deep in figures and NEED to get this done today......AARRGGHH

I agree, I think this is highly sus.

KK suggests that you contact the local Kingdon Hall and check that they were indeed JW's.

                I'd call the police also.
                Doesn't sound like JW's approach,I'd be thinking more it was someone trying to gain entry & quickly claiming to be JW when you caught them!...Sorry,not saying it to worry you more!{{x}}

Tsk...no answer from Derby or Nottingham but Loughborough answered and says this is definitely NOT a JW ploy.....and he knows someone who came round and asked to attend a JW meeting with the house owner and never showed....and he was burgled.

Gawd, I hope I've alerted the rozzers in time.

*hands Andrea a heavily sugared cuppa!!!
Would it be worth giving the police another bell to let them know what the chap at Kingdom Hall said?May make them take it a little more seriously?

Try not to touch your door knob too, they might be able to get prints from it.

They took it very seriously....she said she'd get someone round asap.....but it's more about if anything happens then we have some sort of background info. I have been and told neighbours, mainly the hubby of the one that knows everyone and everything so word should be round the village in an hour. Or so.
