    A Christmas Prayer

    by Robert Louis Stevenson

    Loving Father
help us remember the birth of Jesus
that we may share in the song of the angels
    the gladness of the shepherds
and worship of the wise men.

    Close the door of hate
and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift
and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing
    which Christ brings
and teach us to be merry with clear hearts

    May the Christmas morning
make us happy to be thy children,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds
    with grateful thoughts,
    forgiving and forgiven
    for Jesus' sake.

    Amen

May everybody of all faiths and persuasions, nationalities, colour and creed and of every opinion have a peaceful and loving Christmas.

Amen to that Piglet. I'm not of any particular religious persuasion, but I think that prayer says it all. We should all be kind, considerate to all human beings.

Who needs diversity training, to me all humans are equal regardless of sex, colour, creed, sexual orientation etc, and that's the way it should be. I know some religions don't celebrate Xmas, but at this dark time of the year it's good to look forward to spring with hope and wishes for peace and prosperity for all.

A prayer is just good wishes and hopes really, Geordie - at least in my opinion. It doesn't really matter if it is addressed to a Deity. I think that's why I really liked Dave Allen (remember his closing line - May YOUR God go with you - each of us has his/her own beliefs and they should all be respected - OK I'LL GET OFF THE SOAPBOX NOW, SORRY

To quote the threads content suggestion.

"Got something non-GYO related to get off your chest? Feel free to talk about anything you like! (Keep it clean)".

I am a Christian but am not forcing my beliefs upon you, just sharing a prayer with what I feel are appropriate thoughts for this time of year which just happens to be CHRISTMAS.

To quote from another part of the bible

"All that is needed for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing" I guess the same applies to weeds as well

                    I am an atheist.

When you look at the world today, wouldn't it be a much healthier place without religion??

I think it would be a barren place without religion Val, it would be a much better place though without the things that are done in its name.

Well said Piglet, I agree with you and you are right to say what you feel as this is the thread for general chit chat.
