  • Feeding The Flu?

    Hi Folks,

Suffering from flu at the moment and have been housebound since Thursday!

Seem to be getting better but wondered if you folks can advise on any meals as a pick me up.

I know I can search the web but I value the knowledge and advice that comes from the vine..

    Cheers
    Danny

P.S. even the wife knows it's not man-flu this time!!
    Cheers

    Hi chuck.

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling chipper.

I tend to use fluids to build up after the flu; ginger ale and lucozade....and rely on good old mother nature to tell me what I need food-wise. Ie if I fancy it then I have it.

It's usually the old classics; tomato soup, lentil soup, cheese and pickle sandwiches, mashed potato and sausages with lashings of gravy and some carrots or green beans on the side. Or just toast. Hmm.

Think I'll do a lentil soup and chilli it up!

They always say a proper homemade chicken soup is the best thing for someone who's under the weather.

My mother always used to make deconstructed Shepherds Pie for me when I was little and feeling poorly, so on the plate would be, mince in gravey, with a little pile of peas next to it and a little pile of mash next to that. I make it for my OH when he's not well too.

Lol, yeah, she also used to make 'reconstituted turkey' from the Christmas leftovers - she'd heat slices up in a frying pan with gravey to keep it juicy, delish! A friend once misheard me discribing this dinner and thought I'd said regurgitated turkey!! Bleurgh!!

"Mummery's Blood" used to be moderately popular amongst mountaineers

It is strong Bovril and rum, served scalding hot It's not as bad as it sounds, and doesn't 'alf clear the tubes

OH and I both tend to regress to childhood when ill. He drinks loads of hot Ribena, sweetened with honey and I only want chicken soup. Each were our grannies' favourite cure alls.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
