Wow, I just watched it. It should be shown on TV regularly.

I'm sure we could cut road accidents if the deaths/injuries had to be reported on the news every night - people would be much more aware. Very few accidents are reported, which I think lulls people into a false sense of security.

There was a visible drop in the number of people using mobiles whilst driving immediately after it became illegal, and the threat of police catching them was new and scarey. Now, I see people blatantly using their phones at the wheel on every car journey I make. Some people just don't believe the police have the man power to enforce this law, so they ignore it and b*&&3r the consequenses!! I agree that there aren't enough police to deal with this effectively, and therefore I feel, that there is a very strong case for putting cameras on our roads that are capable of capturing images of people driving whilst using their phone/texting, as well as their number plates and enforcing the law that way. This offence must be punished just like any other, maybe this is the only practical way to do it.

some of you may remember I had to attend a speeding awareness course - 37 in a 30.

The instructor said to me that stats are proving the courses are working, I said 'so you'll be out of business soon?' - he said 'no, the mobile awareness course attendance is growing'

I have no doubt they will show this clip and more even harder hitting ones, but those will be played to the lucky ones - the ones who haven't yet killed anyone

No need to watch I have seen it on the A14 I came very close to being the victim of improper use of mobile phones. it is un believable that people still use mobiles while driving. that said sitting at our local pub outside having a pint I saw a police car with two police in it and the driver steering though the traffic lights whil on the radio phone and his passenger just sat there. complain about setting bad examples and they have an excuse. well no excuse as far as I am concerned. ban them from driving.

It would make no difference. He's been on a Speed Awareness Course too ... and still does 70 in a 40 zone.

I just refuse to be in the car unless absolutely necessary.

But then, I get knocked off my bike by other stupid drivers

I have noticed that the only people I feel safe with in a car are my mum and dad, they both passed their tests in the mid 1950s when there were considerably fewer cars on the road, yet they seem to be always aware of what is happening around them, never 'zone out' or have the radio/CD on so loud that they can't hear what is happening around them (and I've never understood why any car driver should want to render one of their most useful senses useless, I assume they wouldn't drive blindfolded). It's not because Mum and Dad are old and only do 30mph and never go anywhere either, Dad is a top class amateur golfer and travels huge distances every year playing in tournaments both here and abroad (where he will hire a car and cope perfectly happily in a left hand drive and on the 'wrong' side of the road). Also why do so many people drive one handed, the other hand in their laps? It seems that the more recently you passed your test the less likely you are to have any respect for the rules of the road, it's almost like youngsters consider a driving license a right not a privilege and sadly I include my own kids in this.
Just realized that this makes me sound like a real old fogey (which I probably am), but I really do think that the roads today should make drivers more, not less, wary and respectful.
