Doing some googling this evening I discovered The Allotment. It was shown on ITV 1 West so I never saw it. Anyone seen it? Would you recommend the DVD's?

Funstuie
I got the DVD as I didn't see the TV, as they're short programmes they stick to a formula with some silly bits like what I keep in my shed and that gets a bit boring. Otherwise if you're a beginner there are some good tips and I'd watch anything that's about allotments beginner or not.

I bought it and liked it Sue's right, some bits are a bit repetetive, and the bloke's voice is a bit annoying at times. But, there's some good information in there, and I'd much rather watch that than Gardener's World! My 9 year old daughter likes watching it too
I wish the Big Dig programmes would come out on DVD, I missed a few of them and don't have Sky anymore to catch the repeats.

The woman seems to go round scrounging food as well I thought it was good as David ( the annoying voice) has a real bodger mentality and isn't bothered about how things look. A lot of folks these days seem to buy everything and are more concerned with the label rather than does it do what you want it too.
Well worth the money. Also I can recommend the Geoff Hamilton box set and the Victorian Garden box set (still trying to track down the yellow podded broad bean though )Last edited by nick the grief; 26-08-2009, 02:36 AM.

We watched The Allotment on Discovery Home & Leisure (I think) when it existed on Sky. Now the channels have been renamed I haven't seen it being shown anywhere for ages. I did enjoy it, and would watch it again.
My favourite was The Big Dig which they were showing on UKTV Gardens (which also no longer exists), but I did manage to video this the year before last, and watch it over and over again.
Victorian Kitchen Garden is wonderful, and anything with Geoff Hamilton gets my vote.

The DVDs are alright but they're not the kind of thing I've watched over and over again. It's the presenters that I didn't like, not so much the content. They just came across as boring and bit garden-geek to me.
I've got the Victorian Kitchen Garden set too. I can't remember the bloke who presents it but they could bottle him and use him as a cure for insomnia. For some reason he reminds me of Boycey of Only Fools and Horses
I much prefer HFW and could watch his DVDs over and over again.

I bought the DVD and found the series very enjoyable, I also learnt some stuff.
I know some people found David annoying, but I thought he was just very passionate.Blogging at..... www.thecynicalgardener.wordpress.com
