I have my page on zoom at 200% (eyesight going) and never noticed the adverts down the side.

I actually find it easier to read. It's why magazines and newspapers have columns after all, rather than text sprawling all the way across the entire width of the page.

I never click on the adds anyway, how many of us do.

But surely they weren't just putting the ads on the side!! That on it's own wouldn't have made it faster.

I click on the Ads, very rarely buy anything, but I click them every now and again

I've zoomed the screen a tad (bottom right hand corner for those using Internet Explorer) and it's a bit better. But I'd still prefer it back the way it was...

I don't like it, but only because I've only spent 5 minutes on here this evening and haven't got used to it yet

Have to say I have always disliked the wide green bands down either side of the text box column. I can't seem to make the box column wide enough to fit the screen without having huge text too. The additional white band down the right makes it even more annoying now.

It does seem quicker now though!

And before we go down the route of - "it helps pay for the Vine forum " - for the little it costs to run a server and a bit of bandwidth if the owners are not making that in sales of their magazine ( which this is a great big add for nothing more nothing less ) then they wont be here much longer. Wether they like to admit it or not the vine is a good little earner for them . With a membership of 22500 that adds up when you take adds on a pay per click payment scheme.

Admin will take note of what the marketing manager and the add company says. Only way the ordinary member will get noticed is if they stop clicking on adds and the money stops rolling in - then we will be noticed.
If the ads weren't important - I'm guessing they wouldn't muck about with it so much.

The Vine, at the end of the day, is a tool by the mag to increase sales and/or revenue and/or exposure. What the active users make of it is a different matter..........and they aren't members as it doesn't cost anything to sign up.....but new users that click on the ads aren't going to notice any changes as they are new - and as mentioned many older users don't click on them anyway.

They are a necessary part and parcel of a functioning forum. It would be silly if the forum owners didn't try and increase revenue from the ads, as that's what they are there for.

I'm not saying I like it, but there are ways and means of making the browser experience easier, and the text bigger, which is what I've done.

And it is quicker, so a bonus as well....

My tuppence worth is ad's fund the vine... not too keen on the squished feel, but loads faster so all in all a reasonable compromise.

I have a screen that's big enough so that it makes no difference to my reading of the forum and I don't really notice adverts much anyway, unless I am a bit bored or looking for something in particular. Keep it as it is or change it back, makes no odds to me really.

Have to say I am fascinated by your responses.

I have been studying the ads on this site and many others. how many of you really click on ads on any sites you visit? what makes you click? and do you actually buy anything form those sites.

Sorry, Perhaps I should start a new post into how to conduct my marketing.

Don't like the squished feel and the great big waste of white column, doesn't seem and faster or slower and have never (and almost certainly never will) click on the ads anyway where ever they are.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Anything that keeps the Vine running as a non subscription site is fine by me.
I wonder how some people think it all gets paid for - and it never seems to be good enough for them.
I do think there is a bit of wasted space down the side. Is the aim to fill it up with adverts ?

This is a free (to us) site, they are a commercial business, money HAS to come from somewhere - it is either the adverts or US - end of!
