You just can't get a decent forecast these days, they are never accurate. Not even close.
It's not for want of trying!

The £30 million computer – more powerful than 100,000 standard PCs – was installed in the Met Office's new £80 million headquarters in May.

It is capable of 1,000 billion calculations every second to feed data to 400 scientists.

    However:

The computer uses 1.2 megawatts of energy to run – enough to power a small town.

In terms of pollution the computer produces 12,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.

And, as you say, they still manage to get it very, very wrong!

They get it wrong when the cows opposite always seem to get it right. I just wish I could see them out the back where I work from rather than having to go into the front room and look.

Basically, it's gonna rain unless it doesn't; and be prepared for winds or sun - either could happen.

        Garbage in - garbage out

I'll believe they know what's going to happen in the next hundred years when they can reliably tell me what it's going to do tomorrow.

Crikey, when they recap on the day's weather they often get it wrong.

Oh that's bad....utter waste of space. Looking out of the window is cheaper. And greener.

I've just quoted that to the household - we're all a bit flummoxed. What a waste of money.

Ah, well, y'see, it doesn't quite work like that:

Although the machine was switched on this week [22/05/2009], it will take two months to boot up fully and will not be running at peak performance until after an upgrade in 2011.
              Weather forecast wrong again?
