  • Start all over again

I was offered half a plot when i started at the lottie which is the policy for our plot to see how newbies get on. It had six foot nettles, brambles etc and was in a right old two and eight!
I have tamed it, weeded it, put in raised beds and bascially out grown it.
The plot next to mine is totally overgrown and i must admit i have looked at it and longed for that extra bit of space. Site manager said he had been talking to folk and they were impressed with how i had 'cracked on' with my plot and showed my metal. The up shot is they have asked once the tenacys are up for renewal in September if i would like to move to the plot next door.
Yes i want the space, but i would have to literally up sticks just as i had tamed the wilderness that was my plot and start all over again.
    Would you? Should i?
I have also been asked to join the committe as they want some 'new blood' on the panel as average age is about 110 at present! Any advice on that would be most welcome, i've got lots of ideas as there is so much more we could be doing especially supporting newbies onto the site as it can be so daunting when you first start.

How much do you want the extra space?
Do you think you could give the time needed, knowing how much time a half plot has taken?
If you have longed for the plot, want the extra space, and can give it the time needed, then go for it.
You know how long its taken you to tame the half plot, so if you think you could do that all again, without feeling incredbly frustrated and jealous when you see another newbie come and take over your pristine plot, and probably tutting at the state of yours when they see it, then do it.
As for the committee bit, sorry I cant help, never had a lotty so dont know what goes on.

Could you ask if you could overlap ownership of the two plots for a couple of months? It would definitely mean even more extra work but would the motivation be greater if you could hang onto your cleared and productive plot for a short time while you get to grips with the new plot and maybe get a bit of space tamed on it?

Not sure about the committee but if you have any doubts about the amount of time you could dedicate to it you'd be better off politely explaining that and asking if you could approach them with an offer to help once you've got more time than taking it on when you haven't and risking running yourself ragged.

I would love a bigger plot but all the big plots that come up are being halved and only halves are being given out. My plot is about 15ft long, I was recently told I could move to another site if I wanted to as the plots were bigger to start with so a half plot would be bigger than my present plot. I decided that after nearly two years I didnt want to up sticks moving my shed etc, A while ago I put the OH's name down for a plot as we cant have two in my name, I still havent told him though lol. I would suggest as others have said see if you can have two plots for a year and see how you get on then give up the small plot if you have to.
