Two years ago, my FinL was quoted £40,000 for an entire mouthful of implants on titanium (?) inserts. I only have his word for the price, and he has been known to exaggerate on occasion.

He didn't have the treatment as there isn't that much wrong with his teeth - he just went in to get his partial plate repaired as the retaining wire breaks regularly.

If I won the lottery, I'd be off to US to a decent dentist, and I'd have the works - under a general anaesthetic. I am as phobic as Bob, if not worse, and am deeply in awe of your bravery Bob!

I was also comtemplating laser eye treatment, but maybe not.....

OH had laser eye surgery last October - didn't feel a thing, took about 2 minutes and she has never regretted it, her eyes sight before it were pretty bad (she has been wearing glasses for 45 years), if I could afford the time of work and had the money I would have it done in a shot

My sister had her entire set done (appalling care of her teeth!) and she's got a good set of gnashers, now. Go for it. I would have more done, while you're out there, though, as it does cost a fortune here!

Forgot to add, I'm pretty sure they did it under general, but that may be because there were so many to do!

I'm with you all on the fear/phobia of the dentist. My female denist during my teens was a complete witch. She used to actually shout at me about my gums!! I would cry and shake violently just sitting in the waiting room, and would be so scared, the adreneline would stop the anasthetic from working.

When I moved in with my OH, I joined his dentist surgery and he insisted that I got his dentist (who is absolutely lovely). On my first check up, he told me I'd have to have a little bit of work done on two teeth and I burst into tears infront of him.

I thought to myself 'this is rediculous' and ended up having a course of hypnotherapy (not hypnosis - they're quite, quite different), to try and understand the reasons for my fear. It was quite fascinating, and turned out my subconscious had linked two unrelated events together to make one big Blue Meanie.

Now my Dentist can work on my teeth without any reaction from me at all. He lets me wear my headphones if he's drilling, but he stops regularly and asks if I'm still okay. I think the combination of the two things, the hypnotherapy and a dentist that cares have made all the difference. Heaven knows what I'll do if he retires though!!

Went to the dentists last week for the first time in about 16 years - no phobia but no pain either so why bother. Got nagged by OH to go so got round to it. Anyway, totally clean bill of health (sorry to gloat!) and he doesn't want to see me for another year so all good!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                        WOW!

Nothing needing done after 16 years - you really are very lucky and most likely unique. I bet your dentist (assuming Private) wouldn't want you being interviewed by Dentist Monthly

To think! If the Argentinians had only had the wit to field a crack team of dentists instead of those blokes with guns, we may never have retaken the Falklands

Well done for being a brave boy though Bob

"Hey" he said "Grab your things

My friend's band was called The Dentists - they were excellent.

If they had have done, I would have stayed at home because of an ingrowing toenail.

SL, I know its a bit personal but could I ask you to let me know how much your sisters teeth cost?
I'm really interested to know the cost of an implant in the UK/France compared to here.
Send it by PM if you like, but would appreciate it.
