Which Course Should I Do?

I have 4 options on the table for me at present.

The RHS and C&G are level 2, and I'm worried that these are quite a low level qualification as I already have a level 3 course in another subject under my belt, plus an AS level.

Which do route do you advise me to follow?

Why not ask the National Trust which qualification would be most appealing to them?

I have no idea!!! I have a degree and post grad dip and various A levels in other subjects but am still doing the C&G L2 starting next Tuesday........I don't think prior attainment in one subject has anything to do with what level you should be studying in another subject.....I always think that you should get to grips with the basics whenever you learn anything. If you jump to HNC won't you have missed out on the fundamentals as they assume a level of knowledge that you haven't got?

Boringly - I'd ring the National Trust and ask which they think is best! If your aim is to work for them, get the qualification they like!

If you want to work for the RHS go for an RHS qualification, As I understand it the C&G is based on the RHS course just under a different name.

Professional Gardening sounds like the end product you want but might be based on the self employed gardener and end up being as much about bookkeeping as gardening.

Read the sylubus for each and pick the one that appeals the most from that - ignore the name if you can!

No, it is a 1 year course; and I'm doing it for fun.

The college I've spoken do allow you study it over one year, but they were trying their best to get me to do it over 2 years for some reason. I've got to go back on Monday with my decision.

No, one evening.......If I could take time out of work i'd have done the Organic one which is one afternoon a week.

Do you think that having a HND would make 'over-qualified' for jobs as a gardener? I don't particularky wish to be a manager, though I'd love to be a head gardener, maybe!

Which college is it you are going to? I had to have an interview with one of the chief bods to discuss why I was signing up to it before I was allowed to enrol.....usually they will be the best judges of where people progress to and what level jobs people end up doing.

of course, certificates don't guarantee you a job.

If you aren't academically minded, then just get out there and start digging. Make up some cheap business cards, and get going door to door.

A HND is quite management based, I've done it. You want a practical course as much as possible, something that gets you out and working with your hands, the HND although good is quite classroom based.

I would also agree with the over qualified quote, I have been told in many an interview, your over qualified to work here, we dont think you will stay.
