  • Computer Help Needed!!!!

    I need computer help please!!!

Windows Defender has failed to load, it has expired and the message says to load it manually. I can't find Windows Defender anywhere. Help!!

Second, I upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 from 6 thinking that Windows Defender would be part of the package. It isn't. Now though the top line of the toolbar is missing. So no back button and crucially no email envelope! How do I expand the toolbar?

I really do need help please!!!!

Pres the F11 function key LJ, it should resize it back to normal, or try the F9 function key to bring up the files toolbar!

Just turn it off with the power button, it won't hurt, and restart and try a 'system restore'?

As for the Windows Defender, what is it? I've never heard of it!

Hang on, I'll do your fave thing and google it!

          http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu.../overview.mspx

Ah, its a spyware protection thingy! Have you tried redownloading it from Microsoft LJ? Its supposed to stay up to date itself, so try redownloading it, or try using the file explorer to find where its located in your puter, then double click it and get it running that way, perhaps even putting a link on your desktop?

                System restore - start/programmes/accessories/system tools/system restore

Choose a restore point, say yesterday, it will put your 'main settings' back to then, but will not overwrite files/documents, it is also (normally) reversible.

It will/should get rid of IE7 (which I'm running & like), then you can manually reload Win Def - it says here to uninstall old version (using Add/remove progs in control panel) first.

                MS Win Def http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Or leave IE7 loaded, don't system restore and just follow above instructions for loading Win Def.

If you reload IE7 hitting the 'Alt' button will bring up the old-style toolbar btw.

I am hopeless!! As it stands I have managed to get the toolbar back at the top and bottom of the page - let's hope it doesn't vanish again!

I will follow that link for Windows Defender - heaven help me!!

But I have no email icon or back button because the top line of the toolbar is missing. I am not pressing F11 again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calm down LJ - you need a drink!

Its only a software problem/glitch - there's always more than one way to get to the same place with software.

If you need help removing win def just shout.

LJ, I'm not sure which icon you mean, everyone tends to have their own fave setup.

                          Are you using IE7?

I have a short-cut to my email programme as an icon on the 'quick launch' bit of my windows task bar (the bottom one).

If you right click your mouse on the toolbar and select Customise Command Bar you should be able to choose what commands are available, plus the options are their for other Bars too!

Hope this is of some help

                              Indeed Mrs D.

Hover your mouse pointer around where it says 'favorites center' and right click. choose 'customize bar' then add/remove. choose which icons to display.
