Mines left off the birds now, she brings in slow worms instead. I nearly trod on one under my pooter chair last week!

If you're so sick of the activities of your own cats then try to imagine what it's like when it's next doors cats who are in your garden scratching up your seed beds, pooping on the vegetables and climbing through the hedges robbing nests. Grrr !

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Hopefully feeling better this morning Mrs?
Nature is a wonderous thing, in all her guises.

Cats kill birds, its how it is. Think yourself lucky however, I have mentioned this before on here, but I did wake up one morning and bimble off to the bathroom, noticing as I went a small "blob" on the floor.
Thinking one of the cats had had an accident I made a note to clean it up once I had some eyes in.

Popped in the contact lenses, collected a bit of tissue and some disinfectant and picked up .... a snakes head.

I'm fine thanks and looking out at my wonderful non-concrete garden, having spent the night listening to the gentle purr of the darling duo lying on the end of the bed

                    Purple.....

......the purple would have been berries, probably the last thing the bird had eaten.

We have 15 cats, although four are going to new homes soon. We don't put collars on any of them as we once had to witness one of our much loved cats dangling from a tree branch by her collar slowly choking to death. Thankfully we managed to get a long ladder just in time, but she was never the same again and we vowed never to put our moggies through that again. We've also stopped feeding the birds, as we really didn't want to lure them to their deaths with a last meal. Our cat to bird ratio is much lower than Piskie's.

We had a garden full of glass yesterday as the little swines next door were lobbing bits of glass over the 6ft fence at the chickens...if you hit the chickens you got 10 points, if you drew blood you got 100 points. I decided this wasn't a good game and there were words.....the dad next door has now moved the wooden garden cupboard away from my fence so that the little toerags don't have a handy place to stand on to see over my fence. He didn't say a word to the kids though, for being so horrible, so no more free eggs in that direction...

Hope you're feeling better Piskie, how's the wounded digit?

this is something I may, very reluctantly, have to consider. It wasn't an issue with my darling Charlie (previous bundle), he just never ever did - think Garfield

That's disgusting about those kids, Jules! In my yoof, that would have warranted a police visit! Did the father not even send them round to clean up the glass?

Where are your feeders, Piskie? Do you have a bird table? I never feed on the floor, only somewhere they can perch (some feeders on washing line post, or hanging basket brackets).

my feeders are all quite high up on specially devised hanging poles - I can't see how the darling fluffy things could climb up and snaffle a bird before it would see them

I really really don't want to have to consider not feeding but if this continues well, guess I will. Or I accept that it is nature and enjoy both

I have never believed that bells on cats actually work. Maybe wearing the collar makes the cat reluctant to even try? A cat stalking a bird moves so carefully that a bell wouldn't ring would it?
I know there is a risk from collars snagging, but I used a collar with an elastic section to keep a name-tag on my cat, and it was the only reason we got him back when he had a mild argument with a car. He ended up concussed (but otherwise basically unharmed) in a garden over half-a-mile away, and the owners of the garden brought him home. He needed a few days careful nursing.
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

A few years ago, my MinL had three siamese. When the weather was fine the precious pussies were allowed into a run in the garden.

Several times my inlaws went into the garden and found dead birds inside the run. They never figured out how the little darlings had enticed the birds through the chainlink, but enticed them they had.

One of the cats, Nina, used to make the most odd chirruping noise, very quiet and quite mesmerising, we wondered whether she was the culprit. This was in the days before CCTV cameras were commonplace so we couldn't even spy on them.
