Please report this, OP. Whatever is attacked next time, be assured that there will be a next time. I have been attacked on horseback more than once by out of control dogs and it's terrifying. Reading this sort of story makes me very angry. Can I ask what action the owner is going to take, regarding the injuries to your dog? Hope he's ok.

That's terrible, I do hope she's OK, It's heart breaking having to witness an attack on a muched loved family pet.. are you OK???.. Was the "Pit Bull" on a leash or not, mind you even if not, they should by law be muzzled, I second what has been said before, these dogs should have been eradicated a long time ago, if it was my dog i would have no hesitation in reporting this woman's dogs to the police, they are very strong dogs and obviously she has no control over them at all, it doesn't matter if its a small child or someones pet, these dogs can KILL its in there breed.
My OH's mum has a Staffy, English Bull Terrier cross and she's gorgeous, I'd hate to see anything happen to her like what's happened to your dog.

That is why I am opposed to the definition of a 'dangerous dog' by breed. You can't stop them that way.
An American acquaintance of mine used to say that in America the 'Pit Bull' is not the one that worries people, what they worry about is a sub-type of the Pit Bull known as a Ban Dog (and banned they are, officially)Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

This is from the Kennel Club Site:
Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 (section 3)
It is a criminal offence (for the owner and/or the person in charge of the dog) to allow a dog to be ‘dangerously out of control’ in a public place, a place where it is not permitted to be, and some other areas. A ‘dangerously out of control’ dog can be defined as a dog that has injured someone or a dog that a person has grounds for reasonable apprehension that it may do so.
Something as simple as your dog chasing, barking at or jumping up at a person or child could lead to a complaint, so ensure that your dog is under control at all times.
If your dog injures a person, it may be seized by the police and your penalty may include a prison sentence and/or a ban on keeping dogs. There is also an automatic presumption that your dog will be destroyed (unless you can persuade the court that it is not a danger to the public, in which case it may be subject to a control order). You may also have to pay a fine, compensation and costs.
Animals Act 1971
You could be liable for damage caused by your dog under this Act or under some degree of negligence. It is highly advisable to have third party liability insurance to cover this, something that is included in most pet and some household insurance policies.
Basically you have a duty to at the very least report this attack to the Council dog warden who should advise you how to proceed, if it can be proved this woman's dogs attacked yours you have a right to compensation for veterinary costs.
As an aside a old er guy at work recently had his beloved Yorkshire Terrier attacked to death in the local park by 2 bull terrier type dogs. He has no wife, kids or many friends... now this has happened we are very worried about his state of mind.

shoot the owner and muzzle the dog's. I really blame the owner! I would recommend that you report it to the police as
1 it was an attack,
2 - that breed should be muzzled,
3 - as you need a case number for the blood sucking lawyers to do something about it,
4 - if you do not, then someone else will be in a similar position and be it pet or child, it must be stopped.Last edited by RedThorn; 10-09-2009, 07:57 PM.Never test the depth of the water with both feet

So sorry to hear about your dog getting hurt. My little mongrel (see my pic) got attacked by a boxer dog last year. It came galloping over the field and savaged her, she had no idea it was even coming, poor lass.
Since then the man has kept it on a leash. He also has a wymeranna (spelling>?) which he allows loose, but that one seems to be ok. I dont take my little mutt out too much these days, she s getting on a bit and is happy with the back garden nowadays.
Get a copy of the bill from your vet and present it to her next time you see her, and tell her if you see it off the lead or unmuzzled again you will report her. If you report it now they will deffo get put down as they are illegal. It is down to the owner to do the right thing.
I firmly believe that any dog that has bitten should be muzzled and leashed in public, whether it is a pit bull or a poodle!
As previous replies, it could be a child next time.
