Safari Lunch

The village where we are building our new house is having a Safari Lunch on Saturday to raise money for something or another.

We've been given the name and address of the first venue, where we will meet six other people and be given a starter.

Then we'll get the name and address for our main course and meet six new people there, and finally we all meet up at the village hall for dessert and coffee.

£15 a head and a great way to meet new people in the village , though I suspect we'll be the youngest ones there as usual.

Has anyone else ever been on one of these?

Well yes I guess so. The nice thing is, if you aren't keen on someone in the 'starter' group (maybe they are a bit overbearing), at least you know they won't be in your 'main course' group, so you'll get a bit of respite before the dessert.

I'm really looking forward to it. Our new village has such a great community spirit, its lovely the way we've been included so quickly.

Excellent!! I wonder where I could hire one of those..., 'specially the Indiana Jones stylie whip.

"Bring me my lunch you (can't think of a suitable derogatory term) ...rubbish lot!" **cracks whip at host and hostess**.

I've got a feeling I won't be invited back for the next one though.

There were slightly "racier" versions appeared when I searched, but I thought better of it.

a) don't want to be seen as pervin'
b) might not be wise if being entertained by frail old gentlemens

Isn't it a lovely way of bringing people together Jackie. I'm really really looking forward to it now, especially as Wayne has just solved my wardrobe dilemma

The youth group my kids belonged to at our previous church did this, going around to older members of the congregation for different parts of their meal. They had to walk to each venue. It was a good way to get them to meet on an informal basis and everyone enjoyed it.

I've heard of safari dinners, but never attended one (or been invited, I have to say!)

I've also heard of backward or reverse dinners, where you start with coffee and mints, then have dessert, then main course etc...

No, I'm not sure I'd want to be the cook either, maybe in a few years time , and I think this is just a walking safari. Our first venue is just two minutes up the road. I wonder what we're going to be served...

I think thats a brilliant idea, wouldnt catch on in my village sadly, there's only me thats under 100.
