  • a grown up party!

My OH is the big 5-0 on Monday and we are having some family and friends round for a BBQ tomorrow.

Apart from food and drink, I'm thinking that maybe I should "do" something for the actual party part of the proceedings but not quite sure what exactly.

I'm fine with the kids parties but a grown up one poses a slightly different problem!

    Any ideas?

Bear in mind it's tomorrow so nothing complex that needs loads of planning/shopping....been baking all morning as it is!

    Thanks

    Is it a "drinking" party?
We've got a bit of a tradition now with friends,Jagermeister(sc)Pass The Parcel, make the parcel as you would for kiddies but each person it stops at has to have a shot.(yes a lil childish...but sort of fun too...til the next day!)
I'm also really into all the supposed old fashioned games like charades.
Although I'm sure if it's a good mix of family & friends you'll probably find you're worrying over nothing & as long as the food/drink is there all will have a great time.
    Enjoy!
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

Could you think of a few family / friends quiz questions, print them out and have a prize for the most correct answers?

Why be 'grown up'? I went to a 45th b'day party recently and there were far more adults than kids wanting to play on the trampoline and the swings I'd go for pass the parcel, pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs etc. Prizes can be minimal and I bet everyone would have a great laugh
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Well I hope you've got the 60's, 70's and 80's music all lined up Scottishnewbie.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Grown-up versions of children's party games tend to be even more fun. How about pin the sporran on the Scotsman? (tends to lead to soem VERY adult jokes) Pass the parcel with 'forfeits' between the wrappings (could be a drinking challenge, or just something that makes the victim look like a prat)?

update: no hangover, weather was oustandingly good, loads of folk turned up, lots of laughs - next door neighbour loaned us his table tennis table for the young (and not so young!) ones and we had a ball.

                  Thanks for all your ideas...
