  • Hello Shirlthegirl, I think you could put them in a thimble for if they're anything like mine they grow so slowly even after they've germinated it will be big enough for another month
A 3" pot will be fine. Good luck.

        • Congratulations Fezinio ! They're not easy. About as slow growing as anything I've ever encountered. My Jalapenos and Hot Wax came up no bother at all. What a variety to choose for a competition. Definately a challenge ! Good luck.

The first pic is my big jim chilli, I am so proud, the second is a jalapeno seedling that is a few weeks older and the third is my gourmet pepper that is about 3 months old. Ahhh!

            • Hello Bex, thanks for the pics. My best Big Jim as about the same as yours. Planted 1st January in line with competition rules. My Jalapenos are not as far on as yours, but they were planted later, and I think getting on great.
My other Big Jims, planted same date, are much further behind. I've just had them on the wndowsill. Have you done anything different - or is that a competition secret ?

              • Hi Alice

I've got 4 big jims at that stage planted 1st week in Jan. The one in the pic is the biggest, I had two failures one didn't germinate at all and one got the seed casing stuck. All my peppers are just sitting on my kitchen windowsill.

                • You're doing brilliant Bex. Of the 7 seeds I planted one is doing well, same as yours, like you, one had the seed case stuck, it's surviving but not thriving. One has germinated - just - and has been sitting like that for ages. One sprouted but has not germinated since planting. 3 didn't sprout but I planted them eventually - and no show there. A bit disappointing and I've no idea what the problem is. I'm quite experienced at growing from seed.
I've got 6 seeds left but I'll keep them for later and see if that makes any difference. Look forward to your updates on how yours are getting on.

                      • Our first 3 seeds went into the propagator 2 weeks ago now, still no sign of them doing anything yet, should we cut our losses any try some other seeds, or is it possible that they still may germinate? Any ideas anyone?

                        • Chillies require a loooooong growing season Mrs D so get them there seeds in unless you want to just have some flowers come judgement day in September. They are also notoriously slow to germinate so stick with the ones you have already sown.

                          • Cheers Piglet, we'll get some more of the seeds set to germinate as well as the three that are in, with any luck we should get at least one or two germinate and grow on to plants!

                            • Sorry I can't help Mrs D. If you see my previous posts you'll see the problems. Of 7 seed planted 1st Jan I've got 1 decent plant, but only just starting on 3rd pair of leaves. 3 have done nothing yet ! I think they picked us a challnege for the competition. Good luck with it.
