Another thought it a multi sensory herb garden, this is a very good option for key stage one children aswell as children with learning difficulties, colours textures scents and taste, it can be done on a very small scale with just a few pots to whatever size you want, any extra plants can be sold at fund raisers (just think how invasive mint is but in a pot people will buy it)

or on a larger scale like this herb wheel its very simple to build (depending on how many spokes you put in it) different materials can be used to make it

Now I think I have given you most of my plans, If I can help in any way let me know

If you have any work to be done which might be beyond you and the other mum, building beds or walls, removing hedges or unwanted trees etc, try contacting the BTCV. Your nearest university might have a group of conservation volunteers too and university groups often have their own funding, meaning you get the stuff in your school but they pay for it.

Hi LaineyLou, all of the above links, will check out my links at school this week for you. Whatabout 'seed saving' for this time of year. We are currently decorating and making our own seed packets and drying seeds for sale to parents etc in the main entrance to the school. Good for the days when you can't get out in the garden. Also, pressing flowers and leaves to make handmade cards for sale too! We will be growing beansprouts over the winter and harvesting our ginger to use in a baking lesson. Also busy working on our display board

We have a foster child in the family with 'problems'. She is very fidgety and part ADHD. But, she spent a afternoon with me in the garden, saving seeds, shaking them into paper bags and making and decorating labels for the seeds. She took notice of the bees, a robin and the seagulls flying over. For around a hour she was a different, calmer child.

I have raked the soil and planted the seeds
Now I've joined the army that fights the weeds.

Never test the depth of the water with both feet

Probably a little late with this but I have a website that I have put together to try and help schools who are growing their own. There may be something of use to you on it. As an ex primary teacher I've also tried to include suggestions for integrating gardening into other areas of the curriculum.

The link is The School Vegetable Patch

I'm always open to suggestions for anything to add so if you think of something let me know.

The advice on choosing fruit and veg was as a result of someone asking me to add something about this.

Also I'm always happy to receive photos etc of school patches to inspire others - trouble is everyone is too shy to send any!!!!

My daughter is a 'one to one' at our local primary school. She asked the head if she could try to reclaim the defunct school garden. She now has funding (up to a degree) and full support from management. I will give her that address thanks a lot.
