  • Lucky OH

OH won £101 on the lottery on Saturday and she said she would use it to buy meat for the freezer but I said why not use it for something you want, a project or something.

She decided to extend her fern bed. I went and bought the timber and made the raised bed £14

    £12 for compost

So she has £75 to spend on some more ferns. She thinks she will buy a small tree fern and some more common ferns to go in her bed. I thought it might not be the best time of year though to put a tree fern in but I bet she will get one and then I'll have to do a lagging job later on.
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

Good news indeed, and a good use of the cash. The meat would have been finished and forgotten but the fern bed will always be happy memories of the win.

Well she got her ferns but went a couple of quid over budget in the end. I think she did well for her £101 though. Timber, compost 2 tree ferns and 3 native ferns, what do you think?

The tree ferns have fronds starting to appear and should be quite impressive within a couple of weeks. They are a bit spooky when they unfurl.

Apart from leaving the autumn leaves which blow into the crown for the duration of winter I've not lagged my tree fern in the 10 or so years that I've had it and it hasn't suffered.

Congratulations to your OH and make sure you leave plenty of space for the fronds which get bigger and bigger every year.
