So many memories in your first post that for some reason I missed first time around. I had my birthday read out by Gus honeybun but I missed it and got told at school the next day. We were even allowed to go to the beach and the fair on our own. The phone box in the next road where I made my calls, I even heard a woman tell someone she was expecting again, cant remember how many kids she had it was a lot 9 ish at least, but I couldnt wait to get home and tell mum. We didnt have a car and mum and dad couldnt drive. When cousins visited with cars we piled in, one cousin worked for Mercedes and they would come down from manchester to stay with us in the latest version, one even had a record player and we took my sisters records which then melted in the hot car on the back shelf.
    Oh the memories.

Brilliant tale and great reminder of my own childhood. I had a Chipper bike (childish version of the Chopper) and I remember wishing I had some 'Jumping Beans' and then we got some and they were alright as far as they went but not actually that exciting.
