Anyone Speak/Write German?

A new family have just moved in next door but one. Mum and dad speak perfect English but the little 7 year old boy doesn't speak a word. I feel dead sorry for him - he's started at a new school not able to communicate with anyone! It's a nice school and the teachers look after him, but still tough.

So, we've introduced ourselves to mum but thought we'd send a card to the little boy welcoming him etc, but obviously needs to be in German.

The only German I can remember from school is Ich Bin Zwolf (sp?) as that's when I stopped listening obviously - preferred French and Spanish.

Can anyone help?

I think welcome is willkommen. I get confused between Dutch and German though so not 100% sure.
He will pick up the lingo really fast at school though. The younger they are the faster they learn.

He'll be fine I'm sure, by Christmas. He's REALLY upset at the moment though, and I thought it'd be nice to do something. The neighbours were so welcoming when we moved in a couple of months ago, flowers and cards etc., we thought we'd return a bit of the love...

I did German at school and found it relatively easy - but I think Tiachica will be far more use than me! Good luck.

It's lovely to hear they're being made welcome. I have spent holidays in Germany and was always treated exceptionally well.

I wonder if you could find him some German goodies- cake or something for his little treat??? Just a thought....I'm on the receiving end still of not understanding-so i can imagine how he must feel- although day by day it certainly improves...bet he'll be brill by this time next year!

Tiacica has done a brill message for me and on another thread, and Nicos above, the idea of doing a cake - stollen (thanks Manda) - which is a great idea. Again, one of our neighbours came round with homemade chocolate brownies, so nice to do something for someone else.

I just mentioned this to Mr R who is now a teeny bit concerned that I won't know when I'm going over the top and end up delivering the stuff wearing a dirndl singing Das Deutschlandlied.

As if.
