  • Blood on the carpet!

Help, have blood all over my hall carpet! Does anyone have any suggestions for clever things to get it off as VANISH does not appear to be touching it.

To explain how it got there, Boots my Spaniel has been out with OH and sliced his pad open whilst I was at work. OH has let him walk round bleeding. I said "Why have you left it on the carpet?" Him "i'VE LEFT IT TO DRY"

Its just cost £80 to staple his foot back together so can't afford a new carpet, but thinking of selling OH.

My week cannot get any worse!

My cats used to bring in mice and leave their half chewed bodies to bleed on my cream carpet and I bought a product from the vets called Totalcare . It's a biological stain and odour remover in one ( you can just buy the odour remover too but that's no good for blood) It's about £5 but works a treat- spray/drizzle some on the area and blot- repeat a few times ...it should work well, but it's not esp cheap
there must be more natural solutions - although I've found this has worked exceptionally well for me. I think it depends on how much there is and how deep it's gone into the pile.
Would you have had it cleaned professionally before you'd sold it anyway???
just don't scrub away at the carpet- it'll fluff up ad look patchy
Good luck- hope Boots recovers quickly.

Saturate the stains with COLD water (hot water sets the stain) then blot it up with paper towel. Some folks swear by tonic water but I've not tried it myself.

Slap your OH around the head, it will make you feel better.

I used salt to get ink out of a carpet, dunno if it will work on blood. Good luck, n give the dog a cuddle from me!

Tell OH he has to save for a new carpet. When he asks why, clunk him one for being such a numpty, hence adding more blood and therefore legitimising the need a new one.

And hope your dog is ok too?

It does - I've used salt on many stains. Soak the stain (fresh) with water and then rub coarse sea salt into it until it's mostly out. Then I've used an off the shelf cleaner to finish up.

I've only just (moments ago) had to remove bits of chewed bird from the carpet - Vanish has got rid of it really well - can't understand why it isn't working on yours.

Try again and leave it on for a good few minutes?

There's a lot to be said for brown carpet...

There's a Stain Devil for blood stains, but I don't know if it's ok for carpets. Works well on #1 son's t-shirts after he's had a nosebleed (used to happen regularly, but seems to have tailed off thankfully)

lol Lizzy, but I have to agree with you, don't know what we did prior to having baby wipes in the house!
Never test the depth of the water with both feet

Yes I'd go with salt like the others have said, got rid of the blood from our mattress when I "accidently" gave birth on it (is that too much info?!)

Thanks for your advice, OH has a list of things to try before I get home tomorrow. Cloked him around the head and feel a bit better, he is still grovelling for yesterday when he took both house keys to work and locked me in the house. To get to work I had to climb out of the front window, because he had parked too close to the garage for me to get out that way. I failed to see the funny side when he called me "Spider Wife"

Boots is milking it to the greatest degree laying out on the sofa after having to be picked up because he couldn't make it with his bandaged club foot and is demanding gravey bones. He has two staples in it. Couldn't look when vet did it because I was starting to feel woozy and ready to pass out...
