Autumn
The geese are flying south again,
Last night I heard their cries
And watched them beating through the dawn
To other, friendlier skies.
The wind is veering to the north,
The leaves are falling fast,
Orion climbs the evening sky;
Our fleeting summer's past.
But for all that the autumn is still my favourite season. November has my birthday in it, so it can't be all bad and December has Christmas (okay, okay, I'm off to the norty step as soon as I've posted this) Then it's the beginning of the growing season again, if only indoors. For about six weeks around the solstice our day dawns at 10am and sunset (if there is any) is at 3.30pm. Thereafter the return to the light is really amazingly fast. It's the rain which gets me down most of all, so fingers crossed for a few dry spells this year.
