Ebay not so bad!

Imagine that all books listed with free postage will have the starting price jacked up to compensate!

I buy loads of books from ebay but haven't got round to selling any yet..

Thats the problem LM...........at present I list all my books starting at 1p! Think I'll just have to sell something else instead.


Amazon do free listing on total book sales over a fiver. Just bought a book (originally £12) from them for £2.80 delivered. Took it to post office to see how much delivery would cost me to send it and it was £2.40! Can only asume they have some sort of 'DEAL' with the post office?

No idea SBP.............it's already used with CD's and DVD's but postage is cheap with those anyway.
Some of the books I sell can weigh up to 2Kg and I can't really keep listing at a penny with these.
I think its inline with eBay trying to go upmarket. Before long all stuff sold will have to be NEW!

amazon don't combine postage do they? I just bought 2 books and had to pay £2.75 P&P each ... even though they came from the same seller.

I think eBay is trying to compete with amazon, and offering free P&P on books would appear to be a good deal (for the buyer)

Amazon do combine postage in a way because of the over £5 is free deal. But if you bought from the market place the postage rates are different. I'm always wary buying stuff on Amazon that isn't sold directly by Amazon. Then again they do only sell new stuff so if you're fater second hand its a bit pointless

That wouldn't happen these days Hilary as sellers aren't allowed to give negatives...............
In my instance I was blowed if I was going to give the guy a positive feedback with just a comment, thats why I filed an 'unfair feedback' claim, and won!

It strikes me as ridiculous to not allow negative (or neutral) feedback. I know some sellers used to give negative feedback if they GOT negative, and this was out of order, but to stop ALL negative feedback from sellers is just plain daft!
Most of my feedback is about how fast I pay. Main reason is in case I forget to do it later.....

As a seasoned ebay seller (9 years and many thousands of sales) I accept that there's always going to be someone out there determined to cause trouble. I actually think that there are people who look for sellers with a 100 percent record and try to spoil it. My favourite negative was from a lady who bought a mineral specimen from me clearly described as being 3 x 2 x 2cm. She complained that it was not as big as she expected it to be. So how big would most people expect 3 x 2 x 2 cm to be

Ive used ebay for ages now and at one point couldnt survive without it. The trouble is that it seems to be becoming more and more of a pain. I have tried selling a few things recently and despite them selling all of a sudden there are problems and disputes. I sold a bonnet extension and they opened a dispute about it being late despite telling them about postal strikes. They then received it so paypal closed the case they the opened two further cases each time describing different faults. Funnily enough when we agreed to have it back and it never appeared. Aaaaaaargh

Never the less, ebay is becoming increasingly unreliable but I still continue to sell via ebay as I dont know where else to use.

I'd never considered that, but yeah, you're probably right.
I've had one non-payer this month, so disputed her. Got my fee back, she got a strike ... and then she closed her eBay account. She will no doubt now open a new account so she can have 100% again

Buyers can't have less than 100% nowadays. If she hadn't closed her account eBay would probably have lifted the strike at her request anyway

They only announce them 2 or 3 days prior. They don't charge listing fees for 99p and under start price.

Yeah, I know - sometimes people do know in advance but it might be good for anyone who does hear to post it in here for us all...i check every few days but I've missed a few so if anyone hears - get it on the Vine!!!

I got a bit disillusioned with Turbo Lister ...
Worried about 18th Oct whence from, all books will have to be listed with FREE postage!

Yes, I've just been caught out on both counts.
1) turbolister is really not working like it should: it keeps crashing, it's not loading photos, it's being a right PITA

2) I've just gone through my cupboards and listed half a dozen maps and books. Took me hours. Not only do I have to offer free P&P, but eBay want £1.85 to list each of them

They also want £2 to list each item in sporting goods or electronics I'm only selling items that are less than a quid. It seems eBay don't like amateur sellers any more.

I don't sell on E bay though I have in the past. However, have just bought a computer monitor as part of Iona's chrimbo and bought myself a pair of new leather chainsaw boots = all told I reckon I have saved over £100 on these two purchases alone.

I've just had an email saying there was a powerout whilst most of my items were ending at the weekend

Apparently the search facility was up the creek - thus nothing showed in anyone's listings.

They are offering me to hault the sales of some and relist.

But these are only the ones that sold..so all the others that didn't show and didn't sell - I can do nothing about.

I can't use turbolister [on a Mac] so it was all done by hand.

Add to that the free postage on books; so you are effectively paying ebay fees on the postage as well as the selling price; it really isn't worth it at all.

Harrumph. Not happy.
