Curry is often better after being stood, so it often improves with the microwave. I do not have ready meals but often cook things and stick things in the freezer as we both work shifts. Coq au Vin works well as does chilli, cottage pie, fish pie...

I made a lamb curry tonight with the leftover leg of lamb from yesterday and there's still plenty left. Want me to doggy bag some up?

Corned beef hash and baked beans.

Good rib sticking grub on a cold evening.

Just about anything 'moist' will microwave. Veggies (leafy or green-bean-type especially) cook well in the microwave if well washed, enclosed in a suitable container (with NO added water, just the wetness from washing) and 'zapped' until done. Short bursts with plenty of shaking of container in between are better than one heating (2 mins max between shaking is my rule).
Cheese can be tricky. If you want a cheese topping on something microwavable, heat it first, then add the cheese and use a blow-torch (it doesn't have to be a 'made for the kitchen' type).

I always do scrambled eggs and bacon in the micro.

You'll need one of those special slatted plates for the bacon and use kitchen paper to prevent splatters - don't cover with 'hard' cover or it'll sort of boil/steam. 3 mins each side.

For the scrambled just place all usual ingredients in a lidded bowl and blast giving a stir every now and then until its the consistency you like. tart up with a few chillies or your fave veg such as sweetcorn.

You can also do porridge in a similar way.

Downside - will need washing up facility to hand.

If this a problem - then scratch and go with the many great suggestions above.

Has anyone tried those microwaveable rice pouches? Any good?

Can't remember the brand, but we had various flavoured ones a while back (when things were a little Bean-chaotic) and they were fine. The trouble we had was that the pouches were almost too big (tall) to fit in our microwave as it has a grill bit inside too (the microwave, not the rice pouch).

The ones (packs) we had were red, purple, green and I think brown in colour. The packets were a kind of matt finish - not like Uncle Bens shiny packaging.

Danged if I can remember who they were by...

Have seem some in M&S but will check out the supermarket, thanks Wayne.
I'm so dreading him going that I'm obsessing about his food ( it's something practical I can do to make it better for him). He says he'd be happy with baked potato and beans but you can't eat that every day can you?
