I agree HeadFry, it all seems as if they don't want to get there hands dirty, "Monty" presented GW with a passion, he said his second passion was his garden, his first, his wife, I thought that was so nice. He reminds me of "Geoff Hamilton"....now I am showing my age.

He was talking mostly about his new book, but he also talked about the stroke and his recovery.

My OH asked me if Alys was trying to be the new GW totty. We both looked at each other and said 'Come back Rachel!!'

I liked Percy - though I saw him as a Blue Peter presenter!
            Geoff was wonderful
Alan - brilliant, even TOH would watch!

Monty I don't get on with - his style is not mine. I stopped watching GW while he was at the helm.

Toby.... yet to pass judgement there - seems ok to me.
The weeks and the years are fine. It's the days I can't cope with!

I do think the latest half hour episodes have been better than the longer ones that were on earlier in the year.

Please don't knock Alys. She is lovely.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

                I thought Alys was lovely.
                What does she do?
                Is she a gardener?

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Alys used to be a gardener at the last GW site, as in behind the camera - at least that's what I believe.

She is lovely and very knowledgeable and gets my vote - as do they all actually. I remember watching Toby many moons ago when he presented a garden show (no idea what it was called) with Lisa (his wife I think).

He has always come across as a fun-loving, easy going chap - he gets my vote also.

BUT - does anyone remember Ken Burras (1968 – 1969) as per my post above?

I'm still undecided on the new lot/format it seems a bit er.. poncier than it used to be. I Agree Toby doesn't seem to like getting his hands dirty.

And expensive. 4 £200 raised beds. £50 tubs etc.

I got the Geoff Hamilton collection on DVD after seeing it mentioned on here and he's a breath of fresh air. He probably didn't, but you can easily believe he personally dug out, leveled and then laid that 50m path on his own. And then dug some spuds to take home.

Fair point but it's all the poncey design rubbish I can't stomach and I always get the impression that the old boy on the plot next to him thinks he's a bit of a grinning loon that has no idea.

Pretty much the same as me, never liked Monty on GW although like him on other things.

My granddad always used to laugh at how when TV gardeners did a bit of digging they were always worn out which he said showed that they never did much normally

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Alys Fowler was Head Gardener at Berryfields.
