  • Advice for the layed up

Had a bit of an accident last, shattered my right heel bone in 2 places. Cant do jack and looks like the pc is about to become my best freind for 8 weeks. The highlight for today was Tuckers catalogue dropping through the door, great. I will never take walking for granted again.

Commiserations! You're in the same place I was last December... My top tip is: don't get the plaster off and then fall over and break it again

The seed catalogues are great entertainment, along with a book of graph paper, a ruler and a pencil for plot redesigning. I'd also recommend buying in some pots and cell trays because the physio etc might mean you aren't ready for digging and planting over winter & spring but you can still have plants coming along to plant when you're ready.

Take it easy, don't push yourself too hard until the physio people tell you you can

Sounds nasty bravo2zero. Can get very boring being imobolised. I had months of it after breaking neck and spine several years ago. Never been right since but I manage. Could be a great opportunity to catch up on some reading. Never bored with a good book as a companion.

Before being in hospital I hardly ever read unless it was to obtain information. Since then I have discovered the joys of a good novel and almost always have one on the go.

Hope your up and about as soon as is possible but don't try and do to much to soon.

      Take care.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

Some good suggestions above. Maybe also look into home correspondence courses, to keep you occupied? I've also been laid up with a back injury, but the morphine kept me jolly!
