Filling the eaves of your house with wire wool probably isn't the best of ideas.
Fantastic to keep the squirrels out, I'm sure, but the eaves are open for a reason. You need the roof to be properly ventilated in order to avoid condensation in the loft, condensation can lead to mold on things like wood, card, paper, leather and so on.

It would be preferable to box in the eaves with facias and vented soffits.

It's a pity you don't live a bit closer to me, I'd lend you Whisker, he catches rats, mice and squirrels
I'd do what you're going to do though and call in an expert. In the meantime, use plenty of bleach when cleaning!

Hmm- nope- def. not deathwatch beetle- I looked into that for another huge beam we had to replace

No termites yet in our area- won't be long though apparently!

Nope- I can hear something scrabble up inside the cavity wall to above the back door. Then stop and start munching....then wanders round in the evening- and is gone/sleeping by morning.
Our hazelnut tree is just outside and the previous owners had mice store hazelnuts in one of the mattresses in the spare room!!!
Think it's mice cos I've seen a few droppings in the cellar.

Still- as you say, I'll keep a close eye on what is going on!

We lived in council block of maisonettes (new build block). The heating was through air vents. You could hear the mice scampering through at night.

Thinking about it when I lived in a quarter house they were "tales" of a gamma rat in the attics going fromone to another and so on. Anyhoo heard loads of noise and a box in the attic had a chew hole so called in the experts and it turned out to be a little harvest mouse. Called them this morning they reckon mice as they are in the floors £40 just gotta book in with them am arranging an appointment as we speak and cleaning like mad!!!
