If you don't Log Out, you still show up as logged on (or Online Now: and it's very frustrating if I'm trying to contact someone who is Online Now, but has actually gone to bed for the night )

Curioser and curioser says I. I'm logged in all the time unless I clear my cache when I have to re log in.
Even though I'm logged in I threw a switch a long while ago to say I'm logged in invisibly, just out of interest!

Haven't bothered to change it so I must be in a permanent state of invisible logginidness!

Pumpkin Becki is showing 'Offline' to me, dunno what you other peeps can see?

Technically, if you close your browser and/or shut down your computer you should show as 'Offline', whether you logged out or not. I know Zazen quite often shows as Online when she isn't, but I'm not sure if she fully shuts down her pooter or if it's something Mac related

Oh, and Janie, a lot of the 'Guests' are simply the Vine showing up as a search result on Google, rather than hundreds of faceless lurkers

I would imagine there is some kind of timout limit for each persons session. The GYO servers can't actually tell if you've shut down your computer. But they can tell if they haven't heard from you for, say, 20 minutes. So if someone is logged on and shuts down their computer without logging off they may show as still being logged in for a period of time.

I'm sure a lot of us will have experienced a similar thing with on-line banking, that if you log in and then don't do anything for a while you will automatically be logged out.

I never sign out, only because I receive notifications when a thread I've posted in gets a reply.

I use Firefox with tabbed browsing so unless I close that tab it can be open all day, not sure if I show as being on line if I go read a different tab though

Unless you're 'Invisible' like Snadge, then the best way of telling whether someone is there or not is to look at their profile, and it says when the 'Last Activity' was. If it's hours ago, then you know the person isn't 'there' even if they're showing as online.
