Isn't that the whole point about micro toxins though........they are quantative and even though they don't appear to do you any harm, over a long period of time they do!

Interesting read but as much as i like my steak with a good pink bit in the middle i am not sure i would want to go so far as to eat it raw. That said and if i understood things enough then cooking meat should still be ok surely, the biggest point i understood is that it is the foods that have to be cooked to be edible that are bad.

        Definately no raw eggs though.

I suppose it depends how cavemanish you want to be. I don't think early cavemen had fire?
Think I'll take the enlightened caveman route though and lightly cook mine!

I've thought for years that this was obvious, but this particular 'diet', like most of them, sounds faddy and I'm sure its adherents will become overbearing (and over boring). A lot of what this chap is saying makes sense, however what is the point in living a long time if you're miserable? And I certainly would be if I had to follow that to the letter. No scent of baking bread, no wine, no chips (I don't actually eat chips very often, but I really enjoy them when I do). I'm not sure that beans, bread and potatoes can be that bad for you, in moderation, but it's like everything else, you have to try and judge what is moderation. Also the chap says that the hunter gatherers of today are still following this lifestyle and don't suffer from the types of ill health that we in the developed world do, but I know that most, if not all, of them cook their food and I wonder if they don't get things such as late onset diabetes, cancer and arthritis simply because these are things which typically attack in later life and they've already died of something else when younger. Don't forget that we are protected from tetanus, - which they must be really vulnerable to - and various other diseases. Also even if they do get the more western type of illness, who is going to diagnose it? The more elderly members of the population might well succumb and we wouldn't know. I also seem to remember archaeologists have found bones showing distinct evidence of arthritis in what we would consider 'young' members of ancient populations, the expected lifespan in the paeleolithic was something like 35 years I believe.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Urmm..cavemen were only around a few thousand years ago- and certainly cooked on fires- there's loads of charred remains found around hearths in caves ( more like shelters)

Cooking of meat is thought to have been the reason Homo Sapiens evolved .It was the ability to digest and absorb more nutrients etc from the cooked meat which caused the 'sudden' increase in brain size and thought processes.

              Hmm...interesting or what???

I forgot to say that I think the diet looks exceptionally healthy- but my taste buds seem to have evolved differently!

                - just a thought- should we need to start using our appendix again for that diet??
Darn- just remembered mine's been removed...oh well then- best stick with the more yummy nosh!!!

Was the appendix not originally for our grass and leaf eating period when we were tree dwellers

Whether I try the diet or not, I did think it made for interesting reading!

I don't meesel - it's about the similarities rather than the differences; in response to Snadger's comment....I'm not going to write a thesis on here....but suffice to say we aren't as 'developed' as we like to think we are....not much has changed in the thought processes when it comes down to basics.

The thing is, to know the similarities you still need to know what they actually thought like. As that is impossible to know, it's all just guessing
