We both love cooking so much that we hardly ever eat out or taken out. If our kids want to treat us our choice is our local Thai restaurant. That's something we just cannot seem to manage at home. When it comes to inspiration The Hairy Bikers take a lot of beating. Last night I cooked their 'best of somerset'. I don't count calories lol

I eat most things..... but.....we went to quite a nice restaurant in Oxford a few years back, a place we very much liked and used for celebration meals.
I love risotto .....but NOT the one I had there!
It was like a sticky almost dry cheesy rice pudding gone very wrong - one moment my head thought it was a dessert then poor head thought it to be the main course- it was awful. Talk about a 'headfry' moment, nearly fried my head trying to work out what I was eating.Yes, I did complain (first time ever) girl said "oh dear"..... no sorry, no nothing! This restaurant went under a top UK chefs name who has an top notch place also in Oxon. You would think they would know better and/or deal with a complaint better. Have not been back since. Last I knew they had hit the bottom and were being bought out buy Loch Fyne (sorry for poor spelling) yuck yuck almost put me off rice pudding and risotto.
of yes and you could stand your fork up in it......

Last night I called at the Fish and Chip van, as I desperately need to go shopping and only had 'Long time cooking' food at home.

I had to throw most of the fish away (well, put it on the bird table), as the batter was undercooked for me in places. As soon as the slimy stuff hits my lips it makes me feel sick and I can't eat it. Was quite peed off, as it was £4.80 for that fish. Hope the magpies enjoy it!

I have yet to find a decent fish and chip supplier in the South East.

ETA: I haven't touched KFC for about 3 years. OH's Mum and Dad always call for it after shows in the summer, as we get back later. I've never really enjoyed it, but one time I relented and said I would join them for dinner. I think it took my system about 4 days to get over it. Disgusting excuse for food and that's not taking into account the welfare issue!

We very rarely have chips from the chipshop nowadays but they don't taste the same as when I used to eat them out of newspaper on the step at my auntie's when I was little!
Funnily enough we had some chips the other night, we'd driven to near Birkenhead to see the Queen Mary 2 liner which was docked at Liverpool & drove on to New Brighton afterwards where we bought a cone of chips each & sat in the car looking out to sea in the dark eating them (very romantic if a little bit smelly with salt & vinegar!). They tasted fine but were a bit 'heavy' & I couldn't finish them & ended up with indigestion afterwards!

The worst fish and chips we tried was when the local pub tried to set up one of those fast food vans in their car park. We thought this would be great, DD was especially pleased at the thought of chips in walking distance, as we have no takeaways in the village at all. The first chips she had were fine, but one day in the summer we thought we'd have a girls night, so wandered down to the pub to get fish and chips. We had to wait for the fish to be cooked, which was fine by us.
I have never tasted batter so salty, the fish wasn't skinned (which we could both cope with), but it had bones in which is a definite no no for DD. To cap it all, the chips were greasy, grey and underdone. If we had eaten them there at the picnic benches, we would have complained, but we couldn't be bothered to walk back.
There must have been quite a few disappointed customers, as they closed down soon afterwards.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

I utterly dread going to do dinner with FiL. He complains about everything (even though he never pays).
He always orders steak, will never eat 'foreign' food like Chinese/Indian/Thai, and every meal is the 'worst steak he's ever eaten'.

Probably most embarrassing was when we went to a very posh hotel and all the men ordered Kobe beef. He loudly sent it back as 'undercooked' and demanded the poor chef cook it until it was properly chewy.

He just likes to make a fuss. I will complain if the food is truly awful, but I do it discreetly and politely!

Just to say on the topic of fish and chips -(and I had some really yuk ones from a chippie in Belfast this summer) the best ever are to be found at Felixtowe Ferry and are a secret to the locals - or they were!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

No, you've misremembered, KFC was always really greasy and horrible. Only ate it once about 15 years ago and felt icky all night with a horrible greasy feeling. Not nice at all.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

My friend invited me to KFC about 3 years ago-never again.Tasteless, undercooked greasy something that didn't even taste like chicken.
As for fish and chips-the best ones are usually where there's fresh supply of fish-I haven't complained once when we were holidaying on the west coast. The guy from the fish merchant comes every Friday and the stuff is always fresh(smoked prawns and fresh haddock, yum).Back from the holidays with OH we went to Burger King at the airport and ate 2 burgers.2 hours later there was nearly a race to the loo.I'm afraid our tummies are spoilt rotten with home made food
