I am! I cannot pass a jumble sale/charity shop/ recycle centre without having withdrawal symptoms. I save all plastic pots from yoghurt to icecream. Even the insides of toilet rolls. I am so sure it will come in useful. Am I alone?

No, I have a minimalist other half so spend many of my waking hours hiding or disguising my finds; he's slowly coming round but not if they are kept in the house. I can just about get away with it if they are allotment-bound

I used to try to find containers for my plants, now I have to find plants for my containers. I bring the strangest things home and always to the cry of "what the buddy ell is that for?" and I must admit, I don't always know .....

Don't throw them away Brengirl because 5 minutes later you'll bound to need them for something.

I save the inside of toilet rolls for a few weeks every year to grow sweetcorn and sweetpeas. The roots love it, no disturbance when you plant out.

What about parsnips,runner beans & broad beans? I start all these off in toilet rolls or kitchen rolls(cut in half).

We call it Wombling - and I'm a dedicated Womble. My daughter refused to stand with me when I raided a skip, got some nice plant troughs and tubs and she happily took them home, though she wouldn't try to get them out of the skip herself. I also save toilet roll "inner tubes" for peas and beans.

I don't grow my own having only a small back garden so I watch for 'sell by dates' at the supermarket. Today I found in Waitrose a Mixed bag of 5 veg - huge cauli - savoy - carrots- parsnips and spuds for £2.79p. Way to go...
