Our local shop robbed

Our tiny village shop was raided this week. Their till taken with earnings and place smashed up. What is wrong with people?. They work so hard, up at 6am to open- lovely, lovely people. It could spell the end for them, they are struggling as it is. Apparently there are lots of break ins in the village area at the moment, thank goodness we have our highly protective labrador - don't laugh - she can be very fierce when protecting the family - bless her. What is the answer for these people?

It would be a start if when these low lifes are caught they were properly punished. I occasionally watch one of the 'real life' cop shows. On these shows film crews follow police and film them at work. We are shown the ammount of work they have to put in and we see the resources used (and consequently money spent) in order to catch these criminals. Usually at the end of the show there will be a recap of the cases we have seen detailing the sentences given out by the courts. Quite often the courts will impose a poultry fine or give out another suspended sentence.

Hours of work and thousands of pounds has been spent on bringing these people before the magistrates and all for what. They must all leave court laughing their heads off. In a few months time they'll be back and in all likely hood will again walk away with big grins on their faces.

Time and time again our police do the work needed to get this scum off the street only to see them leave court as free men ready and willing to reoffend.

And that's if the CPS don't stop it going to court saying that the evidence they have doesn't prove anything.

Our little farm shop got broken into literally twice in as many weeks, second time they took all the meat and cheeses really sad for Val and Mark who run it, unfortunately we are all pretty easy targets in the countryside as things are bit more lax

What is the answer for these people?

Guns.
The powers that be don't protect us (the police have no obligation to do so so we shouldn't have to/can't rely on them - as good a job as the decent ones do with the odds stacked against them) and if anyone attacks you, your home or your business... BANG.

Bloody scumbags.

Its not just the countryside/rural areas that have this kind of crime, its happening all over, lowlife thinking they can do what they want with NO real hardship to themselves (punishment).
And when they do get sent down most of their mates are there, they can still get their drugs, all their meals, bed, satellite TV, and they get paid for work they do while there in, so they have some money when they get out, its all wrong.
There's this stupid rule- 3 strikes and you go to prison, its almost laughable.
Where I live most of the crime is committed by drugy's to feed there habit's, poor things there so badly done to, they get there rent paid, council tax, most of them are on long term sick and know how to work the system, then they have the audacity to brake into some hard working persons home or business's to feed there filthy habit, Arrrrrrrrrrrrr it makes my blood boil.
Sorry for ranting, but having been on the receiving end of this scum I have no sympathy for them, they should all have there fingers copped off.

Our local 'scrote' (can I use that word?) has just been let back out - I don't suppose he picked up any good habits whilst inside. His favourite 'occupation' last winter was knicking all the manhole covers from the lanes in the area and selling them to fund his 'habit'.

It did make us all drive a lot slower I can tell you

Unfortunately I can't find it now, but a while back I saw a video of some convicted violent criminals in America being interviewed.

Asked if they feared the legal system (court, trial and imprisonment) they laughed.*
Asked if they feared the police they said not a chance, they just stay away from police and commit their crimes when they aren't around.
Asked what they DID fear their answer was clear. They fear armed citizens and would do anything they could to avoid encountering a "victim" with a gun.

Convicts themselves give us the answer. The soft approach doesn't work. The hard labour approach doesn't work. Capital punishment doesn't work. But that's because we try to use them as deterrents and rehabilitation when they are neither - they are punishments.
The only deterrent that really works is knowing that the homeowner, petite woman or lanky teenager they are about to attack may well be armed, willing to shoot and a better shot than they could ever dream of being.

Strangely we never seem to listen to what they have to say though - convinced that we know better and they really need another mentor and gentler post-prison supervision.



* It's important to note that American prisons are MUCH harsher than British ones, and they still found them laughable.

It'd be a shame for such a good dog to be put down after doing such a good deed to the community.

Our friend in Atlanta has 10 guns, taught us to shoot while out there, his attitude is "a gun society is a safe society" - they have no crime in the countryside.....
