No no no...
...if there are guns in a society people shoot eachother over parking spaces every day and kids shoot their babysitters and everything...

It's no coincidence that the most violent and dangerous places in the USA have effective bans on handguns for self defence and the safest places in the USA are the places with legally owned and widely concealed carried guns.
Something I heard a while back:
Holders of Concealed Carry Permits in the USA are, without exception, the most law abiding sector of society. Something like 300% less likely to commit a felony crime than any other member of society and something like 4 times less likely to kill someone they shouldn't have than a POLICE OFFICER. They are also typically better shots than the police and more level headed under pressure.
Of course, after the handgun ban in 1997 the rate of violent crime with handguns in the UK went up something like 200%.
Not that it was caused by the ban as such - it's an interesting artefact - the reality though is that handgun legislation the world over has absolutely no beneficial effect on violent crime. None.
Funny that.
