Beware of the squash - its evil!

I was going to do a little gem squash with the Sunday tea - it had other ideas!

To cut a long story short it ended up Squash intact and me in A & E with a badly cut finger. I had sharpened my knife ready to do battle but the only thing it managed to cut was my nail and 1/2 inch deep into my finger.

Luckily Mr Sprocket was in and was quickly summoned to find me about to pass out and blood everywhere. Went into deep shock and had to be shouted at by him. Am now feeling sorry for myself with two paper stitches and a bandage. I know I am a wimp when it comes to my own blood but it doesn't half hurt.

On the positive side he is finishing dinner and I can't wash up....Mr S tried to cut the squash and it had go at him so he has smashed it with a hammer.

Did the same whilst prepering today's dinner. Didn't end up in A&E but did cut finger. Some of those squashes aren't half tough little blighters.

At least it gets you out of doing the washing up,at least until Mr S can get to the shops to buy you a brand new pair of marigolds. (Rubber gloves not flowers).

I did a similar thing a few years back. We'd bought a cheap little barbecue to take, and one of the pre-drilled holes wasn't quite finished, so I decided to use the foil cutter on the barmans friend I had with me. Big mistake. Made a decent sized gash in my first finger and lots of fuss was made (not by me, by mother-in-law). I ended up playing badminton later that day with a ridiculous "mummy" type bandage round my finger.

I know someone who was preparing some avocado one evening for her boyfriend and her, instead of doing the "hit the stone with the knife" thing, she tried to prize it out. She ended up cuttin through the tendons in her wrist. Was off work for weeks and weeks.

Be carefule with knives people - they can hurt.

For cutting into a sharks fin melon I can recommend using a chainsaw.

I use Sabatier knives and they need sharpening so frequently it's ridiculous, but if I'm lazy and let them blunt a bit, that's when the accidents happen...
