Poppies ?

Which side should a girlie wear her Poppy? I have swapped mine from left to right about 5 times now........
Left or Right?
I have googled it but still have no idea

I wear mine on my left simply beacause I'm right-handed. I've never heard that there is any protocol(is thet the right word?!) concerning this.
My niece wears hers on her hat.

unless you are in the forces then it's left for a lady!

The one thing I've ever found that seems kinda certain is that the Royal British Legion doesn't have a policy on how to wear poppies.

I'd suggest just wearing it wherever seems appropriate. I believe some branches of the military are quite strict on how they should be worn as some places are reserved for medals and badges. Some wear them on the cap, some on the left (RAF - I think) and some on the right. Of course, we civvies don't have medals, badges, emblems and the like to wear so it's not so strict.

Left for men because that's where your medals go, right for women because that's where a widow would wear her husband's medals.

Is it different for civvies and the armed forces? I don't think the Queen is a civvy?

On the right hand side for the armed forces family, left for none armed forces, basically for the same reasons as TS said.

While we are extremely grateful for the support shown to us by all those [...] who wear a poppy in the two weeks leading up to Remembrance Sunday, we see this as a voluntary gesture of support and would never prescribe when and how any member of the public wears one.

Of course, there are always traditions, rules and exceptions.
For example, I understand the RAF wear their poppies on the LEFT as the right is reserved for medals, which obviously flies in the face of wearing it on the right because that's where medals go.

I think the RBL's line on it should probably be taken as the authority. Military personnel will follow their uniform rules, for civilians it's a different story.

I never realised it mattere! What a minefield I was ignoring... Tend to wear mine on the left as I'm right handed so it's easier to fix there but now I'm now I don't know if I've been getting it wrong for years!

I wear mine on the left, always have, for the simple reason that on on any suit jacket or shirt, that's where the pocket would be and it sits nicely in that.

I've always worn mine on the left - but possibly this is wrong for a lady in civvies?

For the rest of the year, I always have the poppy on the dashboard of my car - serves as a reminder to me daily of the past, present and future sacrifices made on my behalf.

However I'm sure, that with no slight intended or 'coded' with the wrong side, our boys and girls in the forces - past, present and future - as well as those who have never/can't serve - will be proud enough that the poppy is worn with pride and that the British Legion is supported and remembered.
