  • I don't normally do this, but need to vent

I'm not one to complain about my problems, I suppose I feel it shows weakness or some other flaw which us men just can't admit to. But tonight has been one of those rare times it very nearly got ontop of me.

A few weeks ago I received a parking ticket for parking outside my own house. In fairness, it is a restricted parking zone and my permit had expired. I had taken an extra long lunch break that day to go into town to get a new permit, but due to work and a rather traumatic hospital appointment, had failed to replace the old with the new in my car.
So I was unsuprised to discover the ticket, but set to writting a letter to explain, confident that they would waive the £50 fine.

I had another visit to the hospital tonight and picked up my post on the way, amongst which was a letter from the council saying they don't see any reason why, either the hospital visit or the fact that I actually DID have a permit, should cause them to cancel the charge and as such it still stands.

Now if I had had the permit for several weeks, or did not have a permit, then I could understand, but I did have it. And to add to this I feel I have a pretty legitimate reason for my over-sight. Without medical knowledge or consultation I'm not sure how they can see themselves fit to judge whether or not my circumstances of health should affect the matter.

They'll be receiving another letter in due course.

That alone only annoyed me, what has driven me close to punching the face off a kitten is:
On arriving home from another uncomfortable hospital visit, I can't even park within 300 yards of my house because 90% of the other residents seem to need twice as much space to park in.
On griping to my mum about the whole fiasco I managed to fall down the stairs (fortunately didn't hurt too much, but it doesn't half wind you up when you're already in a mood).

It's times like these that having a girlfriend who wouldn't mind me whinging to her for 30 minutes would come in very useful. The rest of the time I'm pretty happy to go without!

    End rant. Thanks for reading.

Ollie having gone through similar myself I think you need to get hold of your local councillor asap. They can intervene on your behalf and sometimes persuade their officers to change their minds. Local residents should expect a service from their council not grief. If you are playing by the rules, so should they.
And whinging is fine by us Ollie - you never know when it is going to be your turn!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

      You're Welcome Love!

Sorry you're going through so much crap...I'd not give up on them waiving the fine...they'll have on their records when you bought your permit & just maybe you'll come across a less jobs worthy saint next time who'd rather err on the side of fairness than awkwardness!

Don't worry about ranting...we all need to sometimes & The Vine is full of many compassionate & non judgemental ears,so rant away....just please tell me you didn't manage to find a kitten!!!

Each bit of cr*p on it's own is dealable with, but a whole lot all at once can be too much for anybody.

Lets hope the next few days are better for you x

...hmm..my mom appealed a parking ticket a while back- with no success...she'd left the ticket on the dashboard infront of the steering wheel- in full site...BUT.....she'd not stuck it to the windscreen as the instructions demanded!!!

Having read this sorry story I am seething on your behalf. I'm sure you will find a satisfactory solution but in the meantime I would ask for your money back. You have paid for a privilege that they are withholding.
              Good luck.

Pepipoo chuck - post the info and ticket photos on there [with any of your details blacked out] and see if they can help. [Link below]

And bureaucracy sucks, big time. I got a ticket for parking in Stratford upon Avon during the 5 minutes I took to go and get some change. I appealed it and they didn't cash the cheque. Remember to stay factual and calm when you are writing the letter.

                but for now:

Hope the hospital appointments are not very anything too bad. I would be complaining to everybody and anybody, how can they say your hospital visit isn't important enough to cancel the tickets - boll*cks.

Thanks for all the advice and support grapes, it's very much appreciated.

Having slept on it and read through your advice I've spotted a few holes in their claim that I will address with them.
                          1) The letter claims I was witnessed twice, once at 15:59 and again at 20:00 and it includes times-stamped photographs of my car at 20:00. However there are no photographs to suggest that it was there 1 hour before or 1 hour after the photographs were taken.
                          2) The restrictions say that (without a permit) a car can only be parked for 1 hour and cannot return within 2 hours, but given the times they stated it's entirely possible that I parked at 15:30, was witnessed at 15:59, left before 16:30, was gone for at least 2 hours before returning at 19:30, being witnessed again at 20:00 and then leaving again before 20:30 (if you follow).

Given that they can answer these two queries successfully I'll certainly be chasing it up via the other means you've all suggested. I don't think there's a comment here that won't help.

                          Thanks again

Good luck dude, and don't be ashamed of showing weakness - I do it all the time.

Having only ever recieved one traffic related fine (I was photographed in a taxi/bus lane) and just paid up, I'm not best placed to pass on advice.

                              Hope you get it sorted.
