Trick or Treat?

Just opened the front door to a late trick or treater - the biggest frog I have ever seen, just sat there..... pointed him in the direction of the slug hiding hole as I thought he might prefer that to sweets.... He was very polite.

Yay, no one knocked. Word must have gotten out about the muffins, lol.

Just so you all know, I have nothing against 'regular' people enjoying the festivities of the night and children collecting sweets and dressing up.
It is simply that I have had so much bother over the years with certain kids who don't subscribe to what the vast majority of the population consider to be normal human behaviour that I have become very cynical about their motives for doing these sort of things.
My eldest bumped into one of these youths not long ago at a club in Liverpool, and after the initial 'shock' the first thing he said was, ' I am nice now, honestly. I don't behave like a brat any more.' Just goes to show, at some point they grow up, and realise their behaviour as children caused distress.

I'm sorry, I know it's just a bit of fun, but there are laws about these things, and, if someone was posting photos of my kids on the internet without my permission I'd go absolutely bananas....

I have tried and tried and tried. My first problem was to find the URL/location. Easier said then done in Windows Live. Next problem was size and Two_Sheds gave me some tips. Apparently in Vista this is not where it should be but I think I found it and reduced the size to small. I know I am doing something wrong but for the life of me cannot sort it.
I got up this morning in a good mood in spite of the rain but I now feel like throwing things!

I just wonder if I've learned something today, with a little help from a friend

I don't approve (for all the reasons listed above) and I don't let my kids do it. I've not had any Trick or Treaters at this house but we did get the 'teenage yob' version at my last place. I mostly just didn't answer the door but one year I got fed up with it all and answered every knock... with a hideous scream of 'terror' and a slamming and bolting of the door

That reminds me of the story about carol singing in "Under Milkwood" (never read the whole thing, but a teacher read that bit to the class and it stuck). Someone sang back at them through the letter box ...."and when we stopped running we were at our house."

So I agree that not everyone will agree with my philosophy. It's just that my local kids can learn one of two things - that people are nice and you can talk to them have an enjoyable conversation and get a reward in terms of 'Trick or Treat'- or that people are nasty and you no rewards at all except for what you can extort. I will never forget being told by an adolescent 'youf' that I was his best neighbour because I always smiled - as he was restraining his pit bull saying this was a 'nice lady '.

My philosophy on this one is that if they are out asking for things from strangers, by knocking on doors, they have already 'learned' a lesson I don't like, that you are 'entitled' to involve people in your idea of fun whether they agree or not.
It may not be helped by the first I came across this idea being where there were yobs who used the occasion as an excuse for terrorising anyone they disliked, and it hit the (local) headlines every year. As a child, I had never heard of the idea, first met it when my kids were little, and our local 'village hall committee' (it was actually an island, not a village) held a combined harvest/halloween/fireworks party, but the next island over there were local feuds that blew up into vandallism on Halloween.

Oh deary deary me. I am so fortunate to live in another world. When I learn, through the media and on here, what other people have to contend with in their daily lives I so appreciate living where I do in a peaceful environment. Long may it be so !!

Photos of children in the newspaper have to have signed parental consent too - I know this because I had to approve the one of my son when he was doing something at school which the local paper featured.

Well presumably i was a bit to explicit for that i apologise but some times you have to be a bit blunt to get the message if i upset some body i am sorry .
But as Zazen says she did not know it go's on a lot of people do not know it was explained on a forum i was browsing one day where it was not allowed to post pictures of children any way hope this was not to explicit all the best....jacob
