  • I do wholeheartedly apologize for stepping over the mark. I am an inocent abroad, so to speak, and was out of touch with the sites resposibilities. It's a strange and complex world we now live in but to survive we must toe the party line..

        Nope.

        That's a nice signature Fi.

Staying with the kid theme; what's your son doing then?

OK I get to do my proud Mum thing now My 18 year old son is taking a gap year before Uni. He and his friend Dan are planning to walk West to East over the Pyrenees!!! All monies raised will be split between two charities, Help for Heroes and the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham.

His choice of the Phyllis is partly due to the fact that a close friend of mine is currently being treated there.

When there is so much talk about yobs and hoodies I am extremely proud that these two lads are going to be out there trying to make a difference.

If anyone from here would like to sponsor him the links to the sites are in my signature.

                • I have to say again I am really proud of the lads, they are funding the whole trip themselves so all donations go straight to the charities. All online donations go direct anyway.
Very glad you guys will be here to hold my hand when they do go though. It is a dangerous trip even with training

                  • It's great to hear of young people doing something worthwhile like your son is & a shame that teenagers all get tarred with the same brush but it's just that the bad 'uns are an awful lot louder & more visible than the good ones!
We only had one group of three little girls dressed as witches knock at our door this year, O.H. is enjoying eating the leftover sweets! I stopped answering the door a few years ago when we just started getting gangs of older boys knocking on the door not even dressed up but started again a couple of years ago when the little ones around here started to take an interest & coming round with their parents. I don't really like Halloween though & think it's better when people have parties for children where they are safe & not out wandering the streets bothering people.
Into every life a little rain must fall.

                    • Somebody was on the radio this morning talking about mischief night - I'd never heard of it until it was mentioned on here and to be totally honest I was totally horrified by what some people said they got up to. Thankfully we don't have to suffer that round here.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                      • A few people put pumkins out on Saturday, all you can see Sunday and Today are smashed pumkins in the road.

It just inforces the local police view about this "trick or trick" night.

It only takes a few, to spoil it for others.

                        • We have code in the village....pumpkin out means kiddies can knock- works very well
I dressed up as a witch and gave the kiddies a scare when they called!
I have to take care not to scare the little one too much, that would be unkind.

                          • Would like to say that I am heartily sick of accusations of 'tarring all young people with the same brush' every time the troublesome ones get mentioned.
I have NEVER said (and rarely heard anyone else say) that ALL teenagers are trouble. As someone else mentioned, the difficult ones are conspicuous and noisy. That doesn't mean we don't know the others exist, just that when we are talking about the troublesome ones, the nice ones just aren't the subject under discussion.
A bit more responding to what is actually said, and a bit less yelling about what MIGHT (or might not) have been meant would go a long way towards keeping the peace!
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

In a way I wish you had made a "quote..." to your references. In my experience the teenagers 'young ones' today are an absolute delight and am proud to call them my friends. If there are any other sort I have yet to meet them.

At what point did any one suggest you personally had said all teenagers are trouble? Did I miss something? As far as I can see this thread is about a lot of things, halloween traditions, yobby teenagers, nice teenagers, cute kiddies and pumpkins to name a few; so we aren't just talking about the troublesome ones.
