It's our anniversary tomorrow, so we're going out (just the two of us ) to the local pub for burger and a pint(s), well, LadyWayne'll probably have a couple of glasses of Sauvignon Blanc. Brother-in-law and girlfriend have kindly offered to babysit.

I'm really looking forward to taking Bean next year - they usually have some good shows round here, and the village lower school puts on a good display and grub.
reading your post about Bean reminded me of the first time we took our kids to a bonfire and fireworks night organised by the local scout group. Our (then) 2 year old daughter fell asleep on her dad's shoulder and SLEPT through the entire display! and there were really loud bangy ones too!

So Wayne dont hold your breath that Bean will stay awake and enjoy it!

Its a bring a rocket party although one friend generally turns up with a few 6" mortars as used in proffesional displays and they do turn night into day. Scarily they are set off with a battery.

Food wise its proper bonfire food, snorkers, faggots jacket tatties, a chilli, a curry, lots of sides and lots of vino and good music. The clay oven will be lit as will the outside fireplace.

Oh, and I will be wearing my kilt.
we will cast our eyes your way then, and see the sky light up lol,

He probably thinks you're joining in (after he's alerted you to it of course) and scaring off whatever the threat is. Try doing nothing. Ignore him completely, don't even look and let him bark if he wants.

Watch out of the corner of your eye with the most blasé body language you can manage. I bet he'll bark, instantly look round to see your reaction and then probably do that puzzled dog look when he see's you're not fussed.

It might take a while, but he should learn that they're no big deal and no threat.

Well, we (actually LadyWayne) saw one firework on the way home last night. One.

Didn't hear a single thing after that, all night.

I thought it was very quiet compared to years gone by. I'm assuming people are waiting for the weekend.

Our local town did not hold a bonfire this year. The police wanted too much money to be present at the event. It's a shame that these public events are ending because of health and safety or policing.

We also lost our annual carnival last year for the same reason.

Our cats don't bother at all, we make sure they're in nice and early and they just complain that they can't go out.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Ooohh...weird. So did we! We saw four slow moving orange light things that appeared then vanished. No flashing lights, just slow moving steady ones. Deffo not fireworks though...

The weird fireworks are the candle thingies, aren't they? Just look like lights floating along in the sky. They have little parachutes and they use one to signal the end of the display I'll be watching tonight (freezing in the field, I expect!). Sometimes I find it IN my field, the next day!

It was very quiet in this area, too. I also noticed that no signs have gone up for tonight's bonfire. Apparently the village is sick of troublemakers descending on Leith Hill and trashing everything in sight. Sad, eh?
